The End Of The World Diplomacy IX (LIVE)
So, in honor of the Mayan Apocalypse, I want to start a World Diplomacy IX live game on here. Is anyone interested, and what's a good time for you? I want to have it on the 21st, or the night before, spilling over into the early morning hours.

Taking over some Imperial Diplomacy II games?
After joining a few Imperial Diplomacy II games, I found out I didn't like the variant and I didn't have enough time for the games. I don't want to make the game unenjoyable for others, and I don't want to NMR, but I'm afraid I might have to if my life stays busy. If anyone wants to take over one or two Imperial Diplomacy games with all-right positions, please PM me and I'll tell you the details.

WWIV Team Game!!!
Hey, id like to start a team game, but only if there is an alternative to the three person team. Would anyone like to share insight on how to get it started? Would anyone like to commit to a game (regardless of whether or not you have a teammate in mind)??

Imperial Dip II(new map) suggestion
Wasnt sure where else to post this, but on the WWIV map, when submitting orders, it's been invaluable that when lands are noted at only initials even on the blown up map, that the initials are also in parantheses when you're submitting orders, it's very confusing right now in some select regions

Britain and Holland's colors look too similar.

Still too similar?
I thought they are very different...

well part of the problem is the unit colours for Holland are the British territory colours and the British unit colours and the dutch territory colours. Making for battles in the high seas to be confusing.

I would endorse more historically accurate colours:
Make England Pink, Holland Orange and France blue and Mexico red.
Oli (977 D Mod (P))

You realize I changed the colors 5 days ago?
The Holland unit icons should be really different to Britain.

The holland units are very different from the Britain ones now. They are Teal and Blue respectively. Thank you Oli for changing this! :D

How is pink a historically accurate or relevant color for England? I'd color them Red or White.

I do like the suggestion of Holland = orange and France = blue. I'd then color Mexico the tan color used on the CSA, and paint them gray. And I guess too differentiate between Turkey and the CSA, use light and dark gray respectively. I realize that doesnt really do Mexico's flag colors any justice, but neither does the orange color that they wear now. Maybe they go red if England goes white? No pink.... Please!

"How is pink a historically accurate or relevant color for England? I'd color them Red or White."
Its the colour used in classic, making it easily recongizable to diplomacy players

@RUFFHAUS 8, Pink is "the" color of the British Empire. Check the old maps. The British Empire is nearly always pink. Really, pink is the most accurate or relevant color for England. Not sure how it happened, but that just seems to be the way it worked out. I wonder what the reason behind it is...

I guess that's a good reason enough. I guess I just generally think in terms of soccer uniforms before history.

If we're talking about England, we should have the decency to call football by it's proper name :D
Jimbozig (1179 D)
14 Dec 12 UTC
I suspect if he was talking about football he would have.
fasces349 (1007 D)
14 Dec 12 UTC
problem with football uniforms is most countries where either red white blue or green as their dominant colour, which makes for a rather confusing looking map.
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)
15 Dec 12 UTC
Well, Captain, it just so happens that "soccer" is an English word, not an American invention. It's used to differentiate the game from rugby (and Gaelic) football, but also serves to distinguish it from gridiron football. It's short for "association" football, and it makes perfect sense to refer to terms that describe the different kinds of football when you are discussing the game in or about places with mutiple variants of the game.
fasces349 (1007 D)
15 Dec 12 UTC
But why not change the names of the variants? Why does the original have to change it name to differentiate from its variants? Call rugby rugby, call gridiron gridiron, call australian australian football etc.
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
15 Dec 12 UTC
fasces made a good point. What, being not motherlanguage, I don't understand is why they call "football" a game they play the ball mostly with their hands, expecially when there's already an older game called that way in which you can play the ball only with your feet. Since the new one looks a variant of Rugby, wouldn't it be better "US Rugby"? :)
Jimbozig (1179 D)
15 Dec 12 UTC
Rugby has been called Football in Britain as long as Soccer has. American football uses a similar ball and somewhat similar rules. As such, naming it football, after Rugby, does make sense.

X-Country and DOwnhill are both called skiing. Likewise, Greco Roman and Freesttyle are both wrestling. Different sports when similar share names. This makes sense. It also makes sense that soccer diversified to a new name, as the previous name "football" was confusing.
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)
16 Dec 12 UTC
Association football is a variant just as rigby and gridiron are. All three sports evolved from games called football that date back over a thousand years. They do not call gridiron football "US Rugby" because rugby is played in the United States along with soccer. Thererfore fact that nations commonly refer to their preferred form of the game as "football" is not incorrect, simplic absent specific designation of which type. Likewsie using the specific designations such as accociation (soccer), gridiron, and rugby (or Gaelic/Austrian/etc.) is also not improper.

suggestion in order to reduce misorders
I don't want to annoy you with a discussion about the issues from misorders.
Simply they usually happen. Expecially when you have to handle a large number of units and you're not familiar with the regions' names. It's not unusual to make mistakes with all those large map variants.

1066 V2.0 Test Games
As you may or may not know, some time ago, myself, butterhead, fasces, and gobbledook ran some test games on the 1066 map to help determine strategies for the map. These were rather helpful (to me at least) and I'm looking for some brave souls to help out on some more, since we have a new version of the map.
