The End Of The World Diplomacy IX (LIVE)
So, in honor of the Mayan Apocalypse, I want to start a World Diplomacy IX live game on here. Is anyone interested, and what's a good time for you? I want to have it on the 21st, or the night before, spilling over into the early morning hours.

Taking over some Imperial Diplomacy II games?
After joining a few Imperial Diplomacy II games, I found out I didn't like the variant and I didn't have enough time for the games. I don't want to make the game unenjoyable for others, and I don't want to NMR, but I'm afraid I might have to if my life stays busy. If anyone wants to take over one or two Imperial Diplomacy games with all-right positions, please PM me and I'll tell you the details.

WWIV Team Game!!!
Hey, id like to start a team game, but only if there is an alternative to the three person team. Would anyone like to share insight on how to get it started? Would anyone like to commit to a game (regardless of whether or not you have a teammate in mind)??

Imperial Dip II(new map) suggestion
Wasnt sure where else to post this, but on the WWIV map, when submitting orders, it's been invaluable that when lands are noted at only initials even on the blown up map, that the initials are also in parantheses when you're submitting orders, it's very confusing right now in some select regions

suggestion in order to reduce misorders
I don't want to annoy you with a discussion about the issues from misorders.
Simply they usually happen. Expecially when you have to handle a large number of units and you're not familiar with the regions' names. It's not unusual to make mistakes with all those large map variants.

Too many people seem to be changing their orders at the last moment to take account of unchanged orders from other players.
Oli (977 D Mod (P))

There is not much I can do to stop this.
But there is no rule that other player might not change their orders to counter this.
Also you can't be sure that the other plays didn't change their orders too so maybe keeping the orders is a better plan.
Oli (977 D Mod (P))

I would recommend everybody has to reevaluate the turn.
Maybe the orders are the same, maybe not.
This has made for some extremely interesting developments in some of my games! I'm kind of enjoying it, even though I've been negatively affected more often than not.

The interesting question is: will your moves be any different if you know your opponent knows your old moves and he might change his moves to counter your old moves so you can guess his new moves and counter these... :-)

This is pretty ridiculous. There should've been some forewarning or something involved. It screws up the way the game is played. You guys can sugar coat it with "oh knowing the unknown is so cool." I understand the server was lagging, a switch needed to be made, and data would be lost. There had to have been a better way to go about it though. This is only "interesting" for the people who found themselves at a disadvantage.

Or those not too obtuse to recognize that there are other ways people may view things besides, "Oh yay, now I can fix my mistakes!" I think most of us realize that there's nothing to be done about it, so might as well get over it and move on. If you find nothing fun about the added level of intrigue, knowing that others may or may not have seen what your moves were and may or may not change their orders accordingly, well how nice for you. Stop bitching at others who do.

Oli, thanks for taking care of the problem and giving me this freakin' excellent website to play free games on.

Dr Recommend, conversely not in our game but another of mine, someone took advantage of the server by remembering what happened before and pushed ready and gained a SC on someone they didn't the previous turn because they already saw what they were doing. The other person didn't see what happened with the server in time to unready. I'm not sure why 10 hours had to be lost because the server lag was happening long before that, I don't see why all games couldn't have been paused until current orders were backed up

Oli provides this service entirely for free and does a ridiculous amount of coding and maintenance for it. I'm grateful he found a solution to the horrible server lag, and if it gave a person an advantage in a game I'm in, I don't really care, it's just a game.
TheHeat91 (1182 D)
10 Dec 12 UTC
^ Well said SacredDigits, i agree
Hear, hear.
Hollywood, I understand that has happened, and it has happened to me also. It is an unusual circumstance and it's too bad that there have been such effects that may change the outcome of games that people have put a lot of their time into. It is what it is, and the effect is shared by everyone playing. 189 active games. Some will gain advantage, some will be hurt by it. For the most part, it doesn't really change much. If your games, or those of Cunnilingus, have been ruined by it, that's unfortunate. I don't think anyone would raise an eyebrow had Cunnilingus or yourself simply said, "Wow, it's too bad that happened. Is there anything that could be done differently in the future to avoid such game-changing outcomes?" Approach it with some....diplomacy. Questioning players' 'maturity' and 'respectability' for just discussing the interesting twist it has added to some games (and I know that was not you) shows neither.

Oli certainly doesn't need me to come to his defense, I just wanted to speak on behalf of the majority of players here who understand that we've got a pretty damned good thing here, and even though we may have been inconvenienced by this issue we'll just make the best of it and move on. It's ultimately a small price to pay for these games and this community.
Hollywood (1423 D)

I don't speak for Cunni, and I wasn't blaming Oli, was really just frustration what I said above about how things could have been handled, I don't run websites so I don't know the complications behind moving servers. Anyway I think we worked it out

Small information.
My web provider makes an automated database-update every night MEZ.
The old database didn't work, and it got worse each day. At the weekend tech support is non-existend, and the site is soo slow even I can't load the pages in a timely fashion and many people complain they can't get their orders in.
If I put back the last backup it gets loaded on a new database server. Problem solved. Give that I have to work during the week (the time tech-support might have been able to reset the database) so I couldn't take care of taking the site down at the reset. And a period of low activity during the weekend I decided to roll back on a Sunday. And because I have a family that want their dad on Sunday too I found a free 30 minutes block, but only 10 hours after the last backup was made.
So is life I guess....

I have to say, in the one case I found annoying (where my stabbing an ally happened to come at the wrong time, so he then saw I was going to do it and prevented it) I drew the game anyway, so I can't really complain.

1066 V2.0 Test Games
As you may or may not know, some time ago, myself, butterhead, fasces, and gobbledook ran some test games on the 1066 map to help determine strategies for the map. These were rather helpful (to me at least) and I'm looking for some brave souls to help out on some more, since we have a new version of the map.
