The End Of The World Diplomacy IX (LIVE)
So, in honor of the Mayan Apocalypse, I want to start a World Diplomacy IX live game on here. Is anyone interested, and what's a good time for you? I want to have it on the 21st, or the night before, spilling over into the early morning hours.

Taking over some Imperial Diplomacy II games?
After joining a few Imperial Diplomacy II games, I found out I didn't like the variant and I didn't have enough time for the games. I don't want to make the game unenjoyable for others, and I don't want to NMR, but I'm afraid I might have to if my life stays busy. If anyone wants to take over one or two Imperial Diplomacy games with all-right positions, please PM me and I'll tell you the details.

WWIV Team Game!!!
Hey, id like to start a team game, but only if there is an alternative to the three person team. Would anyone like to share insight on how to get it started? Would anyone like to commit to a game (regardless of whether or not you have a teammate in mind)??

Imperial Dip II(new map) suggestion
Wasnt sure where else to post this, but on the WWIV map, when submitting orders, it's been invaluable that when lands are noted at only initials even on the blown up map, that the initials are also in parantheses when you're submitting orders, it's very confusing right now in some select regions

suggestion in order to reduce misorders
I don't want to annoy you with a discussion about the issues from misorders.
Simply they usually happen. Expecially when you have to handle a large number of units and you're not familiar with the regions' names. It's not unusual to make mistakes with all those large map variants.

It seems as though the variant page has been hacked by Bosnians. Just kidding (hopefully) but the page is down. I tried to access the page and saw:
Error triggered: Undefined index: Bosnia.

Hurricane Sandy
Hurricane Sandy struck and ended up taking out my power. While the power came back a few days after, my computer had broken down. I then had to get it fixed. And then, after that, I ended up completely forgetting Vdip for a week or two until now... what do i do?

Degenerative Diplomacy

I've been thinking about this for some time, and I think it could be implemented. It's supposed to be more realistic in how units work. In real life, armies and fleets attack other armies and fleets, and take losses, loosing a few ships, tanks, artillery pieces, infantry, etc. In degenerative diplomacy, units will, well degenerate! It works out as sort of a Hit Point system. Each unit starts out with a certain number of hit points, I'm thinking in the 7-10 range. The units loose a HP for every time they attack or are attacked, so if a unit attacks another unit, it and the other unit loose one HP. Support moves are simply the same thing, if one unit attacks another and is supported, the unit being attacked will take 2 HP damage, and the unit attacking will take one, but the one supporting will take none. Support holds are similarly the same thing, If a unit is being support held and is attacked by a unit supported by another, all units will take 1 HP damage. If just one unit attacks though, only the territory it attacked will take damage and the support holding unit none. Once a unit runs out of HP, it will automatically disband, allowing another unit to be built to replace it. This degeneration is in place to make the game more realistic as in how armies aren't invincible and perfectly even all the time. Let me know if anything could be tweaked or changed and other things elaborated on.

Well, that sounds REALLY difficult to code, but I'll let Oli respond to this in his own way.

but really simple to do in RL with a pencil and some paper.

though it would take a lot longer to finish a game...
i suppose lowering the winning condition can solve that
Lowering the winning condition will still be a bit disproportionate I think ... I suggest setting the HP at around 2 to 3 - the effects are already quite significant.

I agree that it would be difficult to code, and probably easier to do on pencil and paper, but I just wanted to know thoughts and suggestions. I'm not really into the coding stuff, so I might need someone else to do it if I don't if the variant ever takes hold.

So, would retreat rules and the disbands they require still stay the same? Also, I think that supports should not work the way you suggest, especially for support holds. I think that the supporting units should share the damage, at least for defence. Although, I guess it depends on what you define as support. You could define it as artillery firing shells from a distance, in which case the supporting unit is contributing attack but not defence. However, you could define support as a reinforcement column or some such thing and then expect the supporting unit to take damage.

In reality, the more a unit fights the more experienced and better for battle it is, plus generals tend to regroup their contingents.

the cities and supply centers, they do degenerate quickly
Ninjanrd (1248 D)

How about each unit has to move into a SC every so often or they run out of supplies?
equator (1514 D)

Or there could be "supply chain" territories, so, if a unit is isolated from any supply chain, it degenerates quicly and can even change sides, etc...

1066 V2.0 Test Games
As you may or may not know, some time ago, myself, butterhead, fasces, and gobbledook ran some test games on the 1066 map to help determine strategies for the map. These were rather helpful (to me at least) and I'm looking for some brave souls to help out on some more, since we have a new version of the map.
