What To Do...?
Once I finish writing this damned research paper, I would probably become very bored with myself (sexual connotation not to be inferred). And because I have already finished my current variant...I was wondering what YOU guys would want me to work on next.

Help with a developer-wiki...
Hi everybody.
I'd like to develop a wiki for variant-developing.
As my last english-class was 20 years ago I'm not good at writing long articles.
The link is here: http://wiki.vdiplomacy.com. Editing is open to anybody at the moment.

Question about American Conflict
Was this map made with the specific intent that Russia should have a 0% win record? Seriously... one of their centers is utterly incapable of reaching any other center within a year. Another of their centres can only reach one. The third is only able to take a single center, from the British. The SC-happy southeast of the map is ridiculous in comparison to the empty northwest. How is this supposed to work?

Group Chat
@the developers: It is able to create the possibilty of a group chat ingame? In big games like World War IV it is most likely that the states form alliances and teamchat would help organizing this a lot.

Lazy People
So, I had this writing assignment...
And it made me think.......
King Atom (1186 D)

I know that the easiest method of doing work is to put it off until it seems that it is more worth doing. I understand that work of any form is very off-putting, and generally it is not seen as something to be sought after. And yes, I have my own troubles regarding the willingness to put my highest amount of effort into everything that I do, but after much thought, I have begun to question the core principles of work in general.

Among quite a few other things, I have never fully been able to understand why people think, do, or say that which they do. I have always been the ‘Gifted’ student, the one who is known for doing things differently. I’m quite glad that I can think differently, whether it serves to make me stand out, or to feed my nature of claiming superiority over those who are not too different than I. But rather than questioning my uniqueness, I would prefer to know why more people do not choose the path that I have chosen. What is it that makes people so apt to serve for less than their greatest potential? I know that I have fallen short at many times, but I do know that I have worked very hard, and many others could be at my level (if not some level far greater) if they only chose to put in the efforts that I have. But why, then, is laziness so ingrained into our society that we have to be naturally gifted in order to succeed?

What then, is the point to working hard at all? If there are those who do not have to put in the effort to achieve that which is far beyond the comprehension of others, then why must we-Why must I, work any harder than I choose? Surely, talent is a factor. If not, then what is? What makes us struggle when others succeed? Is it merely a part of the human condition, or are we now pawns to a game played by the elite? Do the works of others inspire us to greatness, or do they manipulate us into thinking that we shall never produce something as great as they could?

If one must question these things, however, one must question that which is far beyond my understanding. And thus, would become a topic which I am unsuited to discuss.

It seems though, that if one were to work hard, that work would be applied to something of the utmost importance to that person. And of all the things which are most important to us as a species, are Science, Culture, and Pleasure. But if culture and science require the greatest efforts of those who employ themselves in their wonder, that leaves Pleasure to the rest of the world.

It is obvious that one would choose something that pleases him to become his profession. For pleasure and work can easily come together. But when people arrive at a job in which they must work hard for something that they do not enjoy, what will become of their work? Will it be meaningless, and to what end? If work overcomes Pleasure, then all passion will evade those who work. Yet, if Pleasure overcomes work, then that will surely be the end of society.

How then, can we indulge in the most primordial and simple of pleasures?

Among all that we as humans participate in, there is one simple concept that defines our purpose in life. That which is Pleasure, that which is Love. As long as man has existed, he has had a love for many things. Love for art, love for indulgence, love for power, and above all, love for one’s self and one’s companion. It is for the love of these things that any man will work hard for anything. And it is that which a man loves, that pleases him to experience.

But love is the most complex and profound of pleasures. And yet, we have known it since the beginning and since we have begun to work for it. It is something that cannot be defined, and yet is so easily recognizable. It is something that one will work for no matter the cost. And, above all, it is what makes us human.

So, I guess my pointless ramblings can be summed up as:
-Work is an act of Love
-What is Love?
-People are lazy
-I need to stop rambling and actually pay attention to what I'm saying once in a while

Well as with most things, the economy can be thrown in here. With a poor economy, it is not about working in/with what you love, its about what earns you money. Now with most of the new electronics and gadgets kids have these days, Work is not appealing. So some just do not do it. Those that are motivated do. Ill post more later, its 6AM and I have an essay to write for 7th period.

Well, the world is corrupt and the majority of people honestly are too caught up in other things (whether it be work, worrying, socializing, having a good time, or just wanting to get through the day without having to put out effort) to have the actual integrity for morale, find out the truth primarily, and simply be reverent towards all life. I believe that the world has come to a point where technology has become the basis, as well as entertainment, and it is far too enjoyable, easy, and distracting for people to bother with struggle, effort, and direct action/strictly living to their word. It's also that people seem to think that they're different, even when they are the same (not speaking of you, there are very misguided people whom believe that their misguided-ness is actual proof of experience in which enlightens them, when in reality they are too weak to end the pattern.) The worst part is that many MANY people simply do not know about or how to do things because they're dependent on adults whom baby them and make life easy, as well as stalling and technology to help them out. Media has made people so a.d.d. and insecure, the past couple of generations have faded and devolved over 50 years, we're not like any of those before us. I'm sorry if this is off-I simply couldn't read the entire post because I'm far too exhausted and sleepy :p Hope this helped, but honestly, if one does not know that he is rude, is he really being rude? Or if one does not know the answer to a question does that make him dumb? In a way, nothing matters; but everything in life is connected, and I believe science, my faith, and nature all corresponds to one another, and that all "energies" will balance themselves out. If somebody wants to waste their time in class goofing off, they may or may not regret it later on, but everyone grows at a different pace and everyone changes all of the time. You have to find your own peace and learn to live with it, people love in many different ways and there will always be at least one other person on the face of this Earth that either will put up with them, change them, or are like them, so it all works out in time.

A very thought provoking response from someone I've never seen on this site before...

Thank you, though I do not agree with all that you have said...I simply must thank you for giving the time to respond and to actually read my post. I don't act too seriously on this site, so I'm always happy that when I do, the occasional person will listen.
No problem :) And all's well; I respect that, many people just go with what's said and believe they're impressing the person, but challenging another's view and being able to express your own is much more respectable. I only heard of this site a couple of days ago due to my Battle and Revolutions class-funny, we spent a day just battling on here; but I'm surprised how small the population on this site actually is.

I think the very notion of "work" and whether or not you do it is not the question you should be asking.

Firstly, work should be replaced with the word 'labour'. Labour theory is a subject many people write on, Adam Smith, Karl Marx wrote on it extensively. They concluded that 'labour' should not be the point of 'life', labour for value is immoral, and summarising massively, 'labour' in the sense you describe it, (love, interest, freedom of thought), is what we should be perusing.

People have a free will, and your idea of laziness, is someone else's idea of "living free", the gift of humility should perhaps be something everyone should strive for? People may love being lazy!

But if you haven't already, read Zizek, Marx, Smith, Montesquieu and Rousseau. I think you will enjoy them. They add an academic view to your worries!

Best wishes
