Sure, you can do that if you really want to. (Although I hardly think it is a fair or reasonable method of Diplomacy.) And you are not breaking the rules because you have not specified the game in which you are playing. You may choose to be more discrete in the future, however, because speaking of any game (I'm assuming yours is anonymous.) is typically avoided as a proper form of etiquette in the forums here. Many people do not care, nevertheless, and speak as they please. You can feel free to speak as you choose as well, but be sure that you are following the guidelines set by our rules and regulations listed under "Etiquette" under the Help link.

That is an Anon-Gunboat game, therefore this thread is NOT OK and you are not only breaking a "code" but you could get in trouble by asking for people to gang up on other nations. I would suggest that this be the last message on this thread and you let it die and do NOT do such a thing again.

Whoah! Calm down, seriously! If you didn't know the rules, just say so. No one is trying to harm you or offend you, I think Butterhead was just being a bit too harsh in his wording. I was joking as well (just in case you couldn't tell), but annoying people is what we who utilize the Forums are best at. It is quite alright that you have done this, so long as you remember not to do it again.

I, personally, do not care for the Anonymity of any game. I believe that people (although not smart enough), are rational enough not to hold anything against you in future games because of one made previously. I do not mind stating who I am in an anonymous game, even if I am breaking the rules.

But I do not, quite often, because I would rather preserve and honor the sanctity of the etiquette that Oli has provided us. He does a lot of work for us, and I would rather not piss him off just because someone is doing something stupid that they know they shouldn't be doing.

Anyways...I lost track of what I was saying.

@kikker- perhaps I was a bit too harsh, but it's never a good idea to say such a thing, even joking, about any game, especially gunboats... Heck I do believe that one player did such a thing in another game and got in trouble with the site mod for it... but you may think I was harsh, just wait until the people who take that more seriously than I do read it... which is once again, why you should never do that, even as a joke. and once again, I suggest this dies now.

understood. it was just a tongue in cheek joke to tell the players that there is no reason, other than making everyone wait, to save ur orders and not finalize them. but it's dropped now, and if this mistake gets me booted, then i think i will survive. but it's not like i was really trying to coordinate in an anon/gunboat game. but like i said it's dropped...until someone else w/ 2 cents jingling around in their pocket chimes in.

Joke or not, finalizing is something which you can't expect people to do unless you specifically require it before the game starts (by posting a thread here, which contains any conditions like how you expect people to play and the password to the game...) you are basically being a jerk by assuming other people will do something in a certain way without even talking it over before hand.

In the past i have never played a game where finalizing was expected for anything but retreats, and even then it is usually not considered a big deal.

That said, if you are playing an anon game this implies that you not discuss with anyone which country you are playing... Before the 'code' allowed for true gunboat games to be played we were able to play on an honour system (just a normal game where the players have all agreed before the game not to message each other)

There isn't much point in you sitting down to play with some friends and agreeing to follow some rules, if you are then going to blatantly break those rules... Nobody will want to play with you again and you'd be pissed off with anyone else who agreed to play but then cbanged mid game (or even got up and left mid game)

May i ask why you think finalizing is the 'done' thing???
