Is there ever a strategic reason to postpone a build? Instinctively, I say nay, but this game is so well conceived and elegantly thought out, there must be a reason that it's an option. Any of you seasoned generals have any notions?
It is proper etiquette to accept a draw if you are going to win?
For the sake of argument, lets say in a no-messaging game that all the other players have moved to draw and moved to traditional stalemate positions, but you still have a strong position to win with 10 scs and two weak neighbors.
The Complete Guide to 1v1 Battles: Part II. Germany v Italy.
The Germany v Italy Map has not been scientifically assessed, thus I am looking for play-testers. In particular, RoxArt and President Eden. I shall present my hypothesis.
My noble diplomacy players, I would just like to apologize for my failure my recent 4 games, my Internet decided to die, and so i was forced to CD from all of my games. I will most likely be leaving for the summer, so better sooner then later. I wish i could have finished off my games, but seeing how I only managed to get on at the library, I will not be able to finish them. Espcially the WWI and II games that may be totally messed up now. Anywho, I will see you all in the fall
I am currently in a game FOW with no ingame messaging at all. One country was defeated very early on, Austria. I can't understand how Italy is doing so well without any messaging of any type! Are there any mods who can take a look please? http://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=2062
Ok, one more try for a PBEM I'll be the GM http://forum.webdiplomacy.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=672&p=3782#p3782 5 Day Spring/Fall Movement Phases 3 Day Retreat/Winter Phases Unless all orders are mailed if so the game advances
I followed the link on the help page but just got an email saying "we're mods for Web Diplomacy, not VDiplomacy, sorry". So how do I report a suspected multiaccounter?
hey guys, im going to be on a trip starting tomorrow and will be back around the 13 or 14 and I need a sitter in 2 games, WWIV:http://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=648 WW 2 Team Game:http://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=2119 PM me for details and password information, in the Team game just go with what the allies want and in the WWIV game you would only have to maybe enter orders for one turn
I will be gone on vacation starting Thursday, 6/9 for 10 days. I won't have access to the Internet so I need a sub. I have three games, 2 are 1 move per day and the other is 1 move every 36 hours. PM me if you are interested. I also have one game on webdiplomacy.net. Thanks in advance.
As everyone knows, team games are rather popular, however something I have yet to see is a team gunboat, were your not allowed to stab people, but your not allowed to talk to them either. Lets make it more epic with a team chaos gunboat. Thoughts?
One action card is dealt to players at the start. They may use it at the beginning of any turn, and they will pm the Game Master who will coordinate the gameplay to conform to the rules set out on the cards.
I've started my first game of webDiplomacy, and in the chat window, all the text is in black, where usually the text is coloured in relation to the country. Is there a settings tweak that I need to make?
I'm trying to start a game with a 20 point buy in, and I'm sure I'm entering it properly, but when I go to the game page, it says the buy in is 1. I've nuked and recreated 3 times now and it's the same every time. I guess I don't really mind playing for one point, but I think I might have trouble attracting an opponent for one point...
I've never heard or seen an African variant. But there seems to be one for every other land area (Americas north, central, south, Asia, Australia, and of course the original Europe). Is this because the geography isn't so interesting (having a simple coastline, tho you could have impassable areas like the Sahara Desert), or just no one cares? :\
..and on another note, I have a faint memory from many years ago, about some game that had a map of the Pacific Ocean with just the rings of countries at the edges (West coast of US up to Alaska, Russia, Japan, east coast of China, Australia and other Pacific islands) tho maybe this was not a Diplomacy map.. tho I think it'd be rather cool, like a Pacific War theme, and focused on naval warfare and island hopping!
You could do a Scramble for Africa type thing, I guess. I guess it's a combination of boring geography and the fact that you'd either have to learn a lot about native African cultures and kingdoms, or your map would be Europeans coming in and colonizing everything with little native resistance.
A african map can be found here: http://www.variantbank.org/results/rules/a/african.htm Now it just needs someone to make a playable version from that map here..
I was thinking about this a few days ago actually, you could probably get at least two types of maps out of Africa, you could have a modern africa or an africa in say 1900 after europe had already colonized it, unfortunately I dont understand programming either...
You don't need that much programming knowledge. If you can generate the maps for the webdip-code like kaner did here http://forum.webdiplomacy.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=658 I can take care of the programming part. You just need to add territory-information with an online-edit tool later.
If you can use a paint program (like gimp), you can make map-variants... But don't expect a finished variant soon. Usually it takes 1-2 month of work... Depending how many time you can devote...
I'll have to check it out I tried to make a map before on Paint, and it looked a bit weird, I don't know how to use the newest version of Paint as well as I do the old version
Try PAINT.NET (google it). It's like paint but has more useful tools for making the variant, particularly layering for putting province names in later. I was making one although I postponed until my gcse's are finished in about a month.
@Butterhead, its the windows 7 version on my laptop I dont understand lol Im still trying to figure out what era and region I should try and design one for, I have about 4 or 5 ideas at the moment such as Africa, War of 1812, World War 2, although I don't know if anyone else is working on anything from those eras
I recall on the Google Wave that someone had a very advanced African map but then dropped off the scene. I have a feeling also that Tadar had ideas around a WW2 Pacific theatre of war style variant.
id like to see a WW 2 global and with the 1914 map, thats the same problem youd have with a colonial Africa Britain would be extremely powerful and youd either make a map like FUBAR or have to come up with a map with a lot of sphere of influence neutrals
Mine is kinda like Fubar. Britain and France have a lot of SC's but they don't have many units to protect them. Will also need to make a special rule to make it even less balanced in their favour.
@butter: Make your Antarctica map a kind of scramble for Africa map! In the future, discoveries are made of a great wealth of resources in Antarctica and the great powers rush to secure them! NATO and the UN have fallen apart due to conflict over the Middle-East and the Arctic. Norway is the first to break the Antarctic treaty an builds a base around the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Research station. In response, Great-Britain prepares an invasion from the Falkland Islands. Not to be outdone, the USA prepares its own force. Hoping to get in on the chaos to the south, New Zealand and South Africa prepare to invade as well. Frustrated with this neo-imperialism, an international band of scientists prepares to fight to keep Antarctica as an international research zone.
I think that that kind of thing would fill the board quickly. However, I'd need to see the map to know where you've set up the powers to be and how much outside of the continent you've added.
@gma314 and butter well if the starting powers start at like 1-2 SCs then build up from that, the game and the neutral board would last a bit longer than 3-5 SC powers
@Shep What exactly are you confused about? It would be nice to have other designers set up their own workshops on the dev and then have better programmers be able to pick and designers to debate and make changes based on comments.
Yes, basically, it's a compact map. Entire world maps tend to be quite large and have certain unbalances and problems. Let's say a 1914 world map, well you have a really concentrated area of Europe where most of the SCs are but, that area is the smallest and need small, small print for the regions. Then you go into Africa and you have such a large area with a small SC count if we are going to be somewhere realistic. That's why World War IV works, the designer can in a sense create a fantasy world to justify having so many powers and even out the map. In short what I'm saying is WaW is a Euro-centric map with add-ons to include the global stage. Now that you mention it I can glue a couple other parts of the worl if I felt like it.
