Hahaha, now you can see why I had to put the bastard down for a while!! I generally liked the look of the map, but the logistics of the arctic itself were...unexpected. All of these are legitimately good ideas, but fundamentally the problem is that Im a huge sucker for generic vanilla dip map rules, and wanted this one to follow that norm. I suppose Id lean more towards the ice "melting" in the fall turn, freeing any stuck fleets, but then what of armies...a forced retreat? But then the turn order gets messy, sigh.
Truthfully im of a mind to keep it as-is with perhaps a day-to-day turn system? The Ice as presented now is actually meant to represent a middle ground between the seasons, to try and keep the element without major game changes. What I gathered from research is that at its minimum, the ice still covers a large portion of the pole, but is generally weaker, and at the max essentially the entire hudson bay is covered as well as most of the surrounding seas (excluding much of the atlantic). Very tricky to implement.
As for Iceland, ha! The most peaceful country on earth Ive turned into a power hungry conqueror, yeah its ridiculous I admit, but its the arctic, no? Russia is already split and I just fully ignored greater Scandinavia, much less the entire UK, so I might also just keep the "future" idea and argue borders have changed and priorities more militarized. On a logistical basis Greenland seemed a nice playing ground for Canada and Iceland (presumably) to fight over, without creating too much of a gap. Hopefully that at least makes some sense hahaha
