Hello David, it neither booms nor dies. for those I can get contact with, there are about 15 players who play one or two ftf games a year and 30 who play online, mainly on vdiplomacy.

China Dip Con IV will be in Nanjing in 2019. I m working on one or two articles on that for the DiplomacyWorld Zine.

It would be great to see a booming Chinese Dip community. Do you think that part of the problem is Chinese players not feeling an emotional attachment to Standard? Would good variants having a Chinese connection or Chinese subject matter help?

Well Idon't see it as a real problem. We have developed Chinese historical variant like Diplomacy of the Three Kingdoms and The Warring States. But only a few games were played. It is not the game background but game design that matters most.

Long game time scares away most of the players.

Thanks for the plug, JECE, but Mandate of Heaven needs an overhaul. I like to think that I have gotten better at variant design in the (many) years since I created MoH. That task is third, more or less, on my list. I need to finish Dawn of the Enlightenment and I have an early 19th Century, North American variant in the planning stage.

Dawn of the Enlightenment is set, at least for now. The latest changes are fairly minor, eliminating the Sea of Chile, adjusting the borders or Guarania, and then some cosmetic changes along with making the rules a little clearer. Next step will be running a playtest. It has become my habit to play in the second playtests of my variants, so I suppose I am looking for 14 more players and a GM.

Great work Enriador. I would suggest changing some of the non-SC province colorations. Kara Kum, Peshawar, Nepal, Jaffna

Damnit. Clicked to early. The first 4, Sukadana and Kutai should all have neutral coloration.

Kandahar should be colored Mughal. Benares should be Delhian. Warangal should be Gondwanan. Honavar should be Vijayanagaran.

Most importantly, the Indus needs to be shown running through Sind.

A further thought: the colors of Vijayanagar and Ternate are quite similar. I would suggest making Vijayanagar orange.

Check the map again @David, I tweaked the province ownerships. Some day I will fix Maharajah's too (https://vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=74).

Good suggestion on Vijayanagar and Ternate, didn't notice their similarity due to their distance at start. Raised contrast a bit, hopefully it's better now.

I extended the rivers a little bit, over Sind and also over Bengal/Oc Eo.

Glad you fixed the rivers and the orange is definitely an improvement. Is there a reason that the title box and the Supply Centers are all in pink?

It was the best Christmas decoration I could do. =P

@David E. Cohen: I asked the mods about that once, and they said it was some "palette" issue or something like that.

Also, will "Asm" for Assam instead of the current label be too hard to implement?

Why would anyone care about that? As has been mentioned elsewhere, they are totally unrelated variants. Maybe the designer of Canton can change *his* province abbreviations to make them cosistent with East Indies. Lol

The second playtest of Dawn of the Enlightenment is filling now. We have 6 players and a GM, so we need 9 more players. Step up folks. The variant has been simplified, but I think it still presents an unusual play experience, with the potential for a very fluid game tactically speaking, as well as interaction with a lot of players due to the sprawling nature of the Powers having colonial empires.
