how man y turns do YOU plan ahead?
Usually I plan 2 turn (predicted) ahead, but mostly I work off what happens season by season. I'm wondering if this is common?

Modern Variant border question
Is Fleet Israel to Jordan (and the reverse) a valid move in Modern? It doesn't seem like it should be, but I'm given the option in the movement drop down. It's an anonymous game, I can provide the game I'd via PM if it's needed.

A crazy idea that could be vary entertaining
So I took a look at the Viking map and I got this crazy idea, would anyone be interested in playing a "character" game? it would have a roleplaying aspect similar to the treaties games, but less rules, basically you would invent a character and then play the game as that character ex. Louis the Crusader, King of France, blah blah blah (personal stuff about the character)

I would like to suggest a scroll down box thingy on the variants page that offers the following options:
arrange by: alphabetical, # of players, # of games played, and date created(optional)

it has come to my attention that on some maps the required SC count for a solo are over half of the total count. does this mean that it is not possible for a 2 way draw?

The required SC count for a victory is greater than half of the total SC count in all variants (and the original game, while we're at it). Or am I mistaken? A 2-way draw would be impossible only if the victory condition was less than half of all SCs on the board.

2-way draws are impossible when:
a) Victory Condition is owning less than the half of Total SCs of the Map
b) Total SCs of the Map is not an even number, and therefore SCs can't be split equally between 2 Powers.

A pity that basically no Variant Page reports Total SCs of the Map. I guess that each time a game starts, there are 2 kind of players:
1) Those who count all the dots with their finger pressed on the screen;
2) Those who play the game without knowing what they're doing.

A couple of times, I tried to suggest to variant creators to include this information in the Variant Page. But... alas!... looks like they're determined to keep the secret for themselves. :-(

However, I solved the issue very easily. I bought a cleaning kit for LCD screens! :-)

Uhm Guaroz, little tip: there arent only the chatbox and the map, if you scroll down a little bit more down, you can see all the nations and the number they have...you can simply add them together, thats a much easier and safer ways to get out the right number of SCs...

Haha yes, if you're content to know it AFTER you joined the game. And maybe after the NEUTRAL SCs have been all conquered, otherwise you have to count (with your finger) and add them.
Also, It is usually NOT reported whether the Victory Condition is something different from half+1. Knowing the Total before you start, helps you to understand which kind of game you are going to join.

In any case, why should we have to make that count each time we join a game? I assume that the creator count them all, once in his life. Otherwise I should think that he didn't know what he was doing when he set the victory condition.
Can't he do us a favour and report it in the Variant Page? It's just one number! They write down tons of words about "Historical background" or something, and they can't report a number that they know and that I need? Where's the problem?

Yes of course, that would be helpful...but while Oli is working on that, you can simply watch a finished game of the variant and count the SCs there...normally there arent any neutral centers left and there survived only some player foo, so you have to count about five numbers...youll manage to do so!

You can have a 2-way with an odd number of SCs if a neutral remains neutral for the entire game (unlikely, I know, but possible nonetheless).

It's just a matter of time...
RL is keeping me busy (and we had many new variants the last few weeks that needed my attention too). Usually I have about 15 minutes each day to devote to the site. And sometimes I just forget about many cool ideas.
The RR and CD-count is another thing to be done, and this needs some time too..

It is possible to draw game with an odd number of SC if you leave a neutral center un occupied, then you can wipe everyone else out and agree to a draw while having one unoccupied SC. Simple just makes life a little harder for you...

Thanks Oli, you're great.
I got no hurry to have that count on the VPs. What I was referring to, is that when I PMed a couple of creators asking why the Total SCs were not shown in the VP of the Variant they were about to release, they kidded me. Once, on this Forum, one of them said "I've never known how many SCs are in my map!". Did he choose the victory condition... randomly?
So I got the feeling they don't want to tell us.
Just this. I didn't mean to say you're lazy, sorry if I did. I know you got a busy RL. And I'm aware you do so much for us in so little time you got.
