Competitive Dip
On a suggestion from PE, I am interested in finding those people on this site who like to play competitive Diplomacy - the way it was first created. No pre-arranged draws, no unbreakable alliances...play to win, just like the objective says.

So, who's interested?

Please, new request : units sorted by alphabetical order on the orders sheet.
I am playing my first Modern Diplomacy II game and I have had the HUGE pleasure to notice that my units are sorted by alphabetical order on the orders sheet !

It is so much easier and clearer to find my units that way ! Would it please be possible that units are sorted by alphabetical order on the orders sheet in every variant ?

I've got 2 games on the go that I'd rather not CD - a WWII gunboat most importantly, and a Europe 1939 full press game. I'm away from the 30th to the 10th of June, so would somebody mind taking over for that period?

Feature Suggestion: Delayed Vote Notification?
In the age of the mobile smart phone, it is quite common for people to accidentally hit a button they don't mean to, which usually breaks up the global chat and causes an extra envelope to show up for every player in the game.

I tried to install the webserver on a local server for testing purposes and ran into some problems:
1) the documentations do not seem to match the downloaded folder
2) it seems like there are .sql files missing
3) when installing all .sql-files manually (in order) the webserver gives the following error message: "Error triggered: Unknown column 'u.showCountryNamesMap' in 'field list'."

Appears to be a problem in the coding of the Youngstown World War II map
I'm currently playing Italy in a Youngstown World War II map, and I've run into a problem. The supply zone of Tirane is very obviously drawn so that it's adjacent to the Ionian Sea, but the game will not let me order a movement from the Ionian into Tirane.

Tell me about your life!
Greetings to all the men and women of VDip! I had an idea that I think will help us grow as a community, and get to know each other better. I'd like to know more about you! Feel free to give as much, or as little, detail as you wish. things you can include would be your birthday, age, location, career/schooling, etc. etc. This will help us bond with each other, as well as get some good stats on the demographics on the site!

@g*d: The visiting high priest editorial side at the cartoon said to me decades ago that I had never Left the campus. Taught Latin at a preparatory school, rang bells in a university tower for pin money, saw the Riga Circus perform in Kiev while the Soviets held onto war-ravaged Ukrainians and barely fed them ... so it goes. Oh, I did see Kurt Vonnegut once on stage at a cathedral memorial service for the editor of the Paris Review. On my short list to-do: Sirens of Titan serving me big booster breakfast; get Laid sooner; someday work for a Living; finish the Iliad (If you haven't finished Shakespeare's Lear, you'll never die, as the Hungarian toast goes. Cheers

Hey, my name is Charles (Talleyrand is my last name), I'm from Paris and I'm 259 years old.

I was ordained as a priest in my twenties, and later a bishop even though I wasn't much of a believer. I'm a womanizer and a classy conversationalist.

I worked for Napoleon as an awesome diplomat before betraying the hell out of that guy. Later, even though France lost, I negotiated a near-return to pre-war boundaries. Pretty sick.

More recently I have spent quite a while being dead. :(

@Talleyrandy: M'sieur, kindly explain your work for the Revolution what you did during the Terror and your support by the Bourbons. BTW, Ur Last surviving kinsman was a Parisian woman who was so wealthy she had to leave her Jay Gould estate buildings and grounds on the Hudson River to the public. And she left a bundle to her pet poodle.

Hey all, I'm Glenn, recently married to my beautiful wife Mariya whom I've know for 5 years. I work as an underwriter for Safeco insurance for the last year and some months, graduated from Seattle university with a bachelors in public affairs and minor in human resources. I'm 21 and have my house I just bought in December this last year. No kids because I don't need them for another couple years...I've been playin diplomacy since I was about 15 and love games where we can joke on global and get serious in the private chat. My father is Puerto Rican, my mother is Honduran/Palestinian. I have one twin brother who's middle name is also Glenn (my parents were creative, called me Glenn Stephen and he is Stephen Glenn). And a half sister whose name will remain a secret but has to do with a flower. I'm sitting on the bus on my way to work because it saves money, wearing black slacks and a cuffed shirt because I like to be classy sometimes....I think that's a good deal of info....

And butterhead...as Shelby is a unisex name, just so I don't keep calling you butterbaby, are you a guy or a girl? :S
Hey all -- I'm Ken Briodagh. I'm a writer for a b-2-b marketing trade magazine by day and a crime fighter/poet and fantasy novelist [more Stephen Donaldson than Tolkein] by nights and weekends. I'm married and have 2 daughters and 2 dogs. I grew up and now live again in Connecticut, but I went to college and spent many years living in Maine, near the Canadian border. Also, I'm a gigantic nerd who somehow didn't find out about Diplo until last year. I played like 2 games on Webdip and promptly bailed and have stayed here ever since. I've never played live, but I intend to do so ASAP. Live long and may the force be with the one ring to rule them all.

During daytime I have a small (15 people) company together with my father. We build artificial limbs, orthopaedic shoes for people with distorted feet, special insoles for shoes for smaller orthopaedic problems. Germany we call this "Orthopädietechnik", but I do not think there is an equivalent in the US.
After work taking care of my family takes most of my time. My boy is now 3.5 and my little girl 0.5 years old. A picture of these two is on the promo-page here: http://www.vdiplomacy.com/promo.php

Scott, 35, hopefully entering last year of a PhD program in Economics. I live in Minneapolis. Native Texan. Two older siblings. I never met them. They both died. My father was diagnosed with terminal cancer when I was 9 months old, so not more kids after me. My dad died when I was 21 which was a more than minor miracle. Never married. No kids that I know about. No pets. I have some ethical problems with keeping living animals as play things; although, I have no problems with eating meat. Math major as an undergrad. I went to Columbia. I was actually employed for about ten years between being a self-indulgent academic parasite. Funny story....in my first job out of college, I sent my boss to federal prison. She was subject to a $110,000,000 civil fine and my direct supervisor fled the country to avoid prosecution. I've since met two people here in grad school who had somewhat similar experiences in discovering financial behavior that was ill-advised.....both of them discovered stuff on a much grander scale than what I uncovered. I also worked very briefly as a sous chef for fun and to be able to say that I had done so. My employer has since been a contestant on Top Chef. She did not win. Played Diplomacy for the first time in the Spring of 2010. Decided to give up playing in the Summer of 2012. Obviously, I still read the forums for some reason.
