I hope the name "Touches" you glitch
Hello everyone. There is a game with the new 'Classic Touchy' map called 'I hope the name "touches" you. It is the 1901 build phase, and Russia only has three Supply Centers, but the game thinks he has four, and he doesn't need to destroy a unit. Does anyone know how to fix this glitch, or know of anything we can do?
Thanks,

The Subject Of Turkey
Who out there Considers Turkey European? Why?
What country are you from? Where do you live currently?
I think I know a correlation, but want see if there is one on here
orathaic (952 D)

'european' is a constructed identity, which is barely even something people identify with.

Turkey is largely in Asia minor, by the ancient greek geographic defintion; this however has little utility in the modern age, where Aisa, Africa, and Europe as the ancient greeks knew them no longer hold any use.

In cultural terms, Turkey shares many similarities with other nations, In historical terms, and in political terms.

It of course also shares many things with it's Muslim neighbours. (many former parts of the Ottoman Empire)

I suppose the important questions to ask would be, does Turks consider themselves to be European? (though i guess most Irish people would say they are Irish, and barely register that they are European...)

If the question was, 'should Turkey be allowed join the EU' then that is an entirely different question of political and economic realities.

The answer is, not based on whether Turkey is part of Europe, it is whether Turkish entry to the EU would benefit both Turkey and the EU...

I consider Turkey part of Asia based on geography and it's culture more closely relates to the Middle East(which is on the Asian continent) than it does to European culture...

Yet prior to the Ottomans it was very much part of ''Europe'' hosting the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. Europe also sent many knights/cannons/archers/crossbowmen/norsebeserkers etc... to help defend Byzantium because it was considered (roughly speaking) as being part of Christendom.

Geographically, distinctions that draw lines between ''Asia'', ''Asia-minor'', and Europe INHO are rather vague and superficial, espc. when one considers the ethnic spread of the people inhabiting the so-called border regions.

@Kaner, i think the Ancient greek definition of continents, of which there were three, Asia, Europe and Africa, was a useful definition for a culture which could navigate around the Mediterranean basin and explore the three separate land masses in that area.

I don't think such a definition is particularly useful for informing a civilisation which can fly faster than sound, orbit the earth in 45 minutes on an international space station, and has landed on the moon...

I mean, sure, the difference between earth and other planets is still pretty damn important, because it can takes months at a minimum to travel between them, and that's when the probes don't malfunction.

And at the time this would be a decent approximation of how the continents were viewed by the ancient greeks.

Armenia is far more "European" than Turkey.
The same thing can be said about the ex USSR western Republics from Estonia to Moldavia.
I'd rather consider Israel "European" before Turkey.

Turkey is a Balkan country and its culture more closely resembles other Balkan countries such as Bulgaria, Serbia or Albania than any of the countries to the South. Personally, I think it was a mistake to let any Balkan countries in apart from Slovenia and Greece.

I'm in England
orathaic (952 D)

@Alcuin, Do greece and Turkey not have similar cultures and shared histories?

What makes Slovenia and Greece special?

I also think of Italy and Greece to being fairly similar...
Alcuin (1454 D)
09 Dec 11 UTC
My objection to admitting the Balkan countries was not cultural but economic. Slovenia's economy was already fairly closely linked to Italy and Austria in particular before joining whereas Greece needed encouragement to develop democratic infrastructures after the colonels' regime. Once Greece was admitted though, the encouragement could be provided through the Greek example.

That said, once Bulgaria and Rumania were admitted, there was no longer any tenable reason to exclude Turkey (or even Morocco, whose application was rejected in the eighties).
I am in Germany. I believe the Turks are just as European as we are. A good deal of my friends are Turks. I also believe that European Russia, Georgia, and Armenia also can be counted as "European".

The diplomacy map proves that turkey is in Europe...
True, true.
But then so is Tunis using that logic.

Tunis isn't, looking at the diplomacy map you can clearly see that Tunis is not connected to Europe...

I think you'll have to make a choice, neither Georgia/Armenia nor Greece will sit next to Turkey in EU

I was born and continue to live in the United States.

Turkey is partly in Europe and partly in Asia. Culturally, I'd say it's part of the Middle East. Europe and Asia are geographic, not cultural, terms with very specific and arbitrary definitions. According to these definitions, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Russia are split between the two regions. IMHO Europe and Asia should be considered one continent, Eurasia, divided into various cultural regions: Europe, Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, etc.
machmstr (1304 D)

Historically it could be regarded as "European" due to its graeco-roman heritage. But modern Turkey is something in-between. A mix of greek, roman, byzantine, turkish and arab-muslim traditions.
Alcuin (1454 D)
11 Dec 11 UTC
Economically, Turkey would be of more benefit to the EU than Georgia, Armenia, Greece, Cyprus and Malta combined.
Alcuin (1454 D)
11 Dec 11 UTC
Culturally, on the other hand, Turkey, and Serbia would be of great bnefit.
Dejan0707 (1986 D)

Turkey has divide nature...there is Turks in the western parts of the country (mostly Thrace and around Izmir) who are modern and western oriented, and there is the rest of the country that is no even similar to European ways of life. In numbers that would be 10-15% of proeuropean Turks and the rest is the Turks who are more like Iranians and Arabs than westerners.
Decima Legio (1987 D)
11 Dec 11 UTC
That's the point, Dejan; the question is ill posed.
The real question should be: "Do Turkish people consider themselves European?"
Alcuin (1454 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
True, but then nor do English people on the whole. (Or Russians for that matter).

2-way-draw impossible
I've just realized that in Hussite Wars it is impossible to draw a game with only one other player. Because of the odd number of SCs one player will always get the 24 SCs needed to win the variant. I don't know if there are other variants with a similar problem, but I think it has to be possible to make two-way-draws so I suggest to set the number of SCs needed to win one point higher than it is at the moment.
