Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Diplomacy: Is Germany Too Weak?
I noticed that Germany is considerably weaker in Diplomacy than it's historical counterpart. In game, Germany can very easily be knocked out by England and France. However, historically Germany was able to fight competently on three separate fronts. Does anybody feel that Germany is a little misrepresented in game?
More importantly, are there any variants that address this?

Known World Tournament
Awhile back, kaner proposed a Known World gunboat tournament in which 15 participants would play 15 games, one with each nation. I searched back for the thread, then just decided to start a new one. I want to see if there would be sufficient interest in this to try to get it off the ground.

Feedback for 1v1 Cold War on WWIV map
Hi folks, some of you may have heard me talk on the podcast about bringing the WWIV map to a Cold War circa 1984 1v1 variant. Interested in your thoughts about whether I use the standard WWIV map, the v6.2 version (is there any actual difference in the map itself?) or whether the sealane version would be better. Thoughts?

Live video feed podcast?
Hi folks - Kaner and I are getting together this time next week for another boozy Dip chat.
I was wondering if we found a pub with good wifi whether there'd be anyone who'd be interested enough to watch a live feed video of us recording the podcast?

If so, let us know which platform you use - Facebook Live, Periscope or something else?

So you're saying that not only can we listen to you two gab on about Dip, but we can now watch you get sauced as well?

What sort of time would you be doing it?
Thanks guys I'm sure Mrs Amby and Mrs Kaner would really appreciate us streaming from there.

Cap, we normally get together after work to record. This upcoming episode would be streamed at:

5 pm Wednesday 15 March (Brisbane time)

That means as you're in the U.K. you win the global time zone prize draw as this is:

7am London 15 March
3 am in East coast USA 15 March
Midnight in West coast USA 15 March.

I think the episode after that will be a double episode (where we usually get more sloshed). That is likely to be recorded during school holidays so we could probably live stream that around 12 noon Brisbane which is

2 am London (sorry you lose there)
10 pm east coast USA (day before)
7pm west coast USA (day before)

Anyone have a preference for Periscope or Facebook Live?
I am East Coast US so can't do the first, but would love to do the second. If you do it with Facebook live, it stays for us to watch as a replay as well (caught a lot of the Geneva autoshow that way, including Aston Martin's AMR unveil). I don't know about Periscope.
Hi folks, well I've been playing with my phone and Googling and can't work out HTF to get Facebook Live working. Whenever I log in with my phone to the Diplomacy Games profile and I follow the instructions on Facebook to live feed, it kicks over to my personal Facebook account.

So fuck Facebook Live. I'll instead try on Periscope. If you're keen at the allotted time above (or maybe a little sooner if the bar isn't busy) we'll live video cast on Periscope tomorrow. Just search at the time for Diplomacy (profile name is DiplomacyGames) or click on the map for Australia and then Brisbane (kind of 3 pm on the clock if the Australian continent was a clockface).
Oh, and in case you live under a rock, Periscope is available in the Apple iTunes Store, or at Google Play etc.

I live under a rock... Never heard of Periscope, but I guess that's what we're going with!
Unless you can work out Facebook Live... Maybe we run Periscope on my phone and FB Live on yours?
WTF 1501 D? You must almost be in the HoF?
I'm 97th so Kaner is still a little way off, but getting close.
In fact, he is ranked 107th right now. Click his name to see his rank. We need to get the HoF page fixed though so I can see my name where it belongs finally on the list.

That was great to watch :) I think what I typed didn't go through... it's possibly because my internet went out for a bit so I ended up a bit behind on the stream.

Glad you enjoyed it, I have to say having the camera there was a little distracting, espc. at first.
Does it record so us Yanks can watch it after the fact?
Yes, if you go to Periscope, search for DiplomacyGames it should have old periscopes there for a little while.
Hi folks, in a week from today (noon AEST Wed 12 Apr, 10 pm US east coast / 7 pm US west coast Tue 11 Apr) Kaner and I will be recording 2 podcast episodes and live streaming on www.periscope.tv/DiplomacyGames.

Do you have a Diplomacy Dilemma for us to discuss? Post now, or give it to us directly live during the Periscope.

Captainmeme (1591 D Mod (B))
Thu 13 Apr UTC
Well, I'm a mod :) Nobody else who has posted here is though. You can tell who's a moderator by the checkerboard by their name.

The 'Donator' symbol isn't for donations, it was the result of an event (Oli's daughter being born) in late 2012 - http://www.vdiplomacy.com/promo.php?

The other symbol (the gear) means that person has worked on variants for the site.

The Original Diplomacy Variant
As many of you know, the Calhamer estate is being liquidated and the very first self-published Diplomacy board sold for just over $5000 last week. Well, something else interesting from the same sale - a bunch of prototype maps, these likely being from several years before the game was published.

Minor map issues
Is anybody able to make minor cosmetic map changes to the variants, for readability? There's two small things I've noticed:

* Imperial Diplomacy II: there's a connection between Morocco and W. Med, but the map really doesn't show it.
* First Crusade: The Sardinia supply centre in the large map is placed in an odd, almost invisible spot.
