mmm, no…
The settings were already stated in the previous posts.
You know that better than me mfarb, if 10 players out of 35 ignore the rules or can’t comply with a 16 hours/phase game, this WWIV will surely end in someone’s total victory which is at the same time unearned and quite casual.
I was looking for a minimal explanation of what behaviour is implied by those settings in terms of game-play, assuming that you’re seeking to play a game where everybody involved knows the governing rules and their consequences.
I’ll try to provide it for the most significant settings.
Phases frequency: 16 hours / phase.
It’s fascinating because it lets the game running fast: this WWIV will reasonably take about 40-60 days to complete. On the other hand, 16hours/phase is quite a demanding frequency depending on your life needs. You are expected to log in this website in average twice a day for the next 2 months.
If you can handle this, join!
If you can’t afford this, refrain: you’ll miss phases, you will be cannon fodder to the other powers, you will ruin the integrity of the game and, above all, you won’t have fun.
Messaging rule: Gunboat
You are NOT allowed to send messages to the other players. You can only simulate your intentions through unit movements and unit supports. Sometimes your intentions match with someone else’s, sometimes they do not. Don’t get mad at this and good luck!
Pot type: WTA
Be the first to hit the SC victory condition and you’ll get the whole pot.
If you can’t win, do your best to be included in a draw and you will get an equal share of the pot among the drawing players.
Else, you’ll get nothing.
Under the WTA setting a clear polarization against the board leader is expected. The more the board leader approaches the victory condition, the more the opposition is expected to polarize against him.
Victory Condition: 40 SCs to win
Get first to 16% of the board ownership and you will win.
Be wary. 40 SCs out of 244 SCs means that the minimum size possible for a draw is a 7-way.
Actually, in practice, something about a 12-way up to 20-way draw is expected.
Personal note:
Be prepared, the combination of those 4 settings may lead to a situation where the solo victory can be reached by several players simultaneously.
A very nervous situation, considering that you can’t talk to coordinate with the others. Be ready to switch sides more than once.
Just a note about the other settings because of their minor importance compared to those above:
Bet size 3 Dpoints & no reliability requirements: game open to all.
Anon game: it is not known “who is who” until the game is over.
standard NMR policy: missing two phases in a row sends the country in civil disorder without stopping the game.
