(for those who are interested)
This was my itinerary:
Kanchaniburi (River Kwai / death railway)
-
Ayutthaya (Ruins of the old Siamese Capital prior to Burmese sacking, Baan Holaanda <remains of European settlement> and Wat Mongkhol)
-
NackhonRachisima, aka Khorat (entry city to the Issan Plateau, visit DanKwian a pottery village that still produces using traditional techniques <oh and Amby they're building high-speed rail to Khorat from Bangkok that was the construction I was expecting>)
-
Phimai (a prestine Khmer temple complex, rarely visited my foreigners, and I pretty much had the place to myself two days running)
-
LopBuri (one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Thailand, visited the Royal Palace, Ayutthayian ruins and Khmer ruins. The highlight being the palace - all the while fending off monkeys that almost got away with my sunglasses!)
-
Bangkok (Krung Tep, for some final end of trip shopping silks, ceramic wares, traditional weaving products from NW Thailand)
-
Does anyone sense a SE Asian variant coming? Amby and I got thinking about an interesting one set more globally, but this trip has put a little bomb under me into thinking about one that is set in the region roughly - Burma/Siam/Khmer/Champa/SriviJaya/? Laos?
