Ugh, bad formatting. Let's try that again.

I was just curious if there'd be any interest out there for a team game on the Europa Renovatio. The details would be as follows:

9 Teams of 4 players
Pick your own country
Non-Anon preferred
1.5-2 day phases

The catch? Well, there's 2. The first is that, while you can choose your own country, TEAMS aren't chosen until AFTER the game starts (alternatively, select teams beforehand, but random assignment - I figure letting people choose what country to play is more fun though). 

The second catch? No draws allowed until 1 team remains, or complete stalemates. Teams are free to work together, but knowing that draws are basically not allowed prevents 2 teams from just picking to do an 8 player draw possibly.

What do people think? Interested?

I am certainly interested, but how would teams be chosen? Would it be four players agree to be on a team, or are they decided by everyone?

I would play depending on how the teams are picked. Not familiar enough with the map to have much input yet. I like random-ish teams (6 pools of countries) so you don't get Aragon/Portugal on a team

I'm interested, but would like to know how the teams would be picked as well.

@Bona - They'd be randomly selected at game start. The players themselves wouldn't choose their teams.

@Ez - I see two sides to that discussion. While not having teams grouped would help make things more even and fair, complete randomness would make the game require more diplomacy to potenitally counteract grouped teams that have a local advantage. I'd be open to either way really.

It could be interesting to make the teams hidden.

Now THAT would be exciting! And would definitely make the game more intriguing since you do'nt know exactly who you need to stop if you're trying to end the game.

Just note that two day phases on this map will result in a game that will last a year with good players.

With hidden teams, would you still know who's on you're team?

I'm interested, but only at 2-day or higher phases.

I agree with Macca that longer phases would be essential.

Macca -

In hidden teams, yes, you'd know your own team. But none other. So people could of course, lie about who their team is. Makes it have a bit more intrigue.

Uber -

Depends on if we decide hidden teams or not. Public teams, are, well, public. Hidden teams, you'd know your own team only.

Downside is if you are picked off before the end, but your team is still victorious. Would still appear as a loss for that individual.

I know that this is getting finniky now, but under hidden teams, would each still have an identifier? I.e.

In that, by claiming your teams name, other people could work out who else you're with, rather than just knowing who you've told them you're with?

@Siegmar Bruggen, I imagine the game will be unranked and even the eliminated powers from a team will be counted as winners.

@Macca, that is an OP example team ;). In all seriousness, I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about. Could you clarify?

When you get told your team, are you told:
A
You are on Team 2 with Uber, Drano, and Macca.

OR
B
You are on a team with Uber, Drano, and Macca


In case A, the identifier would make it easier to piece together unknown teams by other players. (Or make more confusion, depending on how much lying there is. It is Diplomacy after all.)

The one who draws the teams knows everything, doesn't he?

Interesting idea. I'm down to join, or maybe not join and instead work on team randomisation.
