Quick question
Say there is a gunboat game that has reached a stalemate line. Would you ever froce draw in said game? Would there have to be a certain number of turns wit no movement or something like that?

Variant Idea.
See inside for details.
Onar (833 D)
13 Mar 11 UTC
How about one in which there are no retreats, and instead, any unit forced out of it's territory is disbanded. For balance purposes, there might be a build phase after every season. I'm not sure. Ideas?
mongoose998 (1344 D)
13 Mar 11 UTC
that would definitly be interesting. I think a build phase after every turn would slow down the game a lot...
i like the idea of no retreats, but maybe make it build anywhere instead of build every phase?
otherwise i agree it would slow games down a lot.
mongoose998 (1344 D)
13 Mar 11 UTC
yea, build anywhere. I like that. now give it a day or two, and people will start insisting we add octopus and chaos to it...
butterhead (1272 D)
13 Mar 11 UTC
I like the idea with build anywhere, and I LOVE mongoose's idea, but lets keep it on topic with Onar's first, shall we?
Onar (833 D)
13 Mar 11 UTC
Well, I figured build after every phase because with units being disbanded every turn, one could potentially lose all their units.
That's true, but i think it would just add an interesting element to the tactics in that you have to not get displaced, so people would have to order retreats as movements. Also, if everyone of your units get displaced in a single season, i think there's something wrong. With build everywhere they'd be able to replace all lost units in the build phase.

Whatever happened to the Russia Civil War variant? I thought that was in the works.
Onar (833 D)
13 Mar 11 UTC
@ancientmemories:

I think you're probably right about the concept of losing all units in one turn.

@gopher27:

I heard about that, and thought it would be a fun variant. I was thinking the same.

Or maybe Kievian Rus? Novgorod, Swedes, Princes, and Mongols, Oh my.
Shep315 (1435 D)

i was also wondering, is the bigger american civil war variant still in the works? because i know there was talk on the old site of a variant that had USA, CSA, and some other countries on it
Onar (833 D)

Was that a world map?
ashleygirl (1285 D)

How about an American Revolution variant?
Shep315 (1435 D)
13 Mar 11 UTC
there is a world map like that, but this was just USA, CSA, britain in canada and France in mexico@ashleygirl there was talk of an american revolution map on the old site but we couldnt figure out a good number of players and countries before the site crashed
the no-retreat rule is one of the features of a new variant which I'm developing with a _new_ developer...
guess who is he?
fasces349 (1007 D)
14 Mar 11 UTC
a _new_ developer?
i'm equally interested in finding out more about this new variant.

Another thing i wanted to say, i think that an ancient chaos map variant would be a really good game, just cause imo, it looks like the ancient med map lends itself to chaos better than the normal map. anyone agree?

+1 AncientMemmories. The Ancient Med overall allows for a lot more fleet action, I think it would be more strategically interesting than classic chaos. Not that chaos isn't epic, it's just kinda random (hence the name I guess)
butterhead (1272 D)
15 Mar 11 UTC
+1 for Chaos Ancient Med. funny how ANCIENT memories is the one to think of chaos ANCIENT Med...
Graeme01 (1224 D)
15 Mar 11 UTC
yeah I noticed that too :D
well, that was just an added bonus guys. But yeah, i was looking at ancient med and liked how you didn't have such a crunch of centers in most places, since the centers are spread in and around the sea rather than the land being one big continent.
bump. Come on Tadar! What's the new variant! Arabalabarakanarf
_which_ new variant?
there are plenty of them......
and one is due to be released soon...

as for the new developer, you should ask to him if he wants to be revealed--

butterhead (1272 D)
18 Mar 11 UTC
well, not including the one they just released, there are I believe (Don't quote me on this) 3 variants being created right now. so its one of those 3. as for the new developer, I feel like the _under_scores, are part of the persons name...
Onar (833 D)
22 Mar 11 UTC
Hey, I have another new idea for a variant. You know how in the american map(s), you can change your units from armies to fleets during a movement phase? How about implementing this as an option for the classic map?
Oli (977 D Mod (P))
22 Mar 11 UTC
This (small) changes to a map usually do not really justify an own variant. Maybe kestas (the main webdip programmer) implements a way to add more custom options to a map. Than it would be really easy to add more strange rules to any map. (FoW is something that should be an option, not just another variant too).
