Cancel vote?
Someone asked a good question. If playing a classic map (just example), France is defeated, and everyone remaining cancels, does France get his / her bet back too?

Phase Length
I am playing a game at the moment where the phase length is 7 days. Most of the players want to draw the game because the game has been going for too long. If everyone in a game agrees is it possible for the phase length to be reduced?

just a thought, but maybe this should be done so unless someone votes no it goes through? That way it could be used to push back an adjudication if it looks like someone will no show, and then you can find a replacement before they ever actually disappear?

I am talking about the convoy to Newfoundland from Germany, the idea was to move there Germany so then the support will be broken...is it a bug? or the rules are like that?

So how do the points get split if your enemies concede?
I don't really care about points, but just curious how that works out in a PPSC environment. Does the winner still get half the points and the rest get divided between the survivors somehow? Or does the winner get his present worth which is less than a win would get him considering he must be shy of the win.

Who else has ever done this:
So recently I played a classic game, and I found myself doing something strange, yet it seemed to pay off greatly... I found myself pulling out my board game copy of Diplomacy, putting the units on the map, and after every turn, I would try to find all the different options my neighbors could make, and find ways to counter them. I would use information from the game to pick the most likely moves to be made, and counteract them. so just a question, who else has finds themselves doing this?

Ante Up?
Is it possible to code having a new game setting where there is a minimum bet or an "ante" and anyone joining can bet the ante or more into the game's pot?

But then, what happens when one player can't make the bid?
If this were on webdip I'd be worried about high-point players using the method to fleece low-point players, but here no one has all that many points anyway
And would all the players already joined suddenly have to add *more* to the pot cause some big stack came along and shoved all in?
airborne (970 D)
09 Apr 12 UTC
Initial bid I mean only your first bid for the game. Not everyone needs to match the ante
airborne (970 D)
09 Apr 12 UTC
CD bid in would be the same SC:bid ratio, in say a classic game players 1-6 all bid 5 or the ante and player 7 feeling confident bids 8. No one should know who bid what, so it would look like
Bet: ? , worth: 10
mongoose998 (1344 D)

what if:
A 10 point game is made, 7 players join, pot is 70, yay.
but along with that there is a new option: CDD(Civil Disorder Deposit). creator picks the amount. If you play the game through wtihout CDing, you get your CDD back. else, it gets mixed into the Pot. only downside is that this will tie up players points. thoughts?
But why would someone risk more if no one had to match it? And it isn't an ante as an ante, by it's very definition, is an amount all players must make. So if you up the ante, it ups it for everyone. Airborne? Do you play poker at all? Do yo not see that one doesn't increase their risk without expecting anyone else who wants to play to do the same?

Agreed with YCHTT. There's absolutely no reason for anyone to put in a higher bid. If its a 5 point classic game and 6 people put up 5 and the last person puts up 50, what do they gain? Even if they win, they just win their own points.

I play poker all the time (even living in Nebraska) it was just a suggestion sheesh
But it doesn't make sense, airborne. Why would someone risk more unless he was expecting to gain more? It's not like a big bet bluff in poker to push people off weak pairs and draws.

Well, I play weak hands (such as off suit 4, 10) hoping for a pair or two or a full house. Odds are ok, playable if the bet is low enough

I dislike this idea.
That is all.

I dislike many of your ideas. I think most of your maps are half thought, lacks foresight and have piss poor quality. That is all.
But you bet either expecting a call or a fold, you don't bet not expecting someone to have to match the bet if they want to continue. Your ante scheme is a bet that no one has to match.

Now, having a betting system where periodically people could bet would be fine, but it's not like you can bluff when everyone not only sees how many SCs you have, but where your units are. So the leader could put in a small bet and everyone could decide to respond with fold, call, or raise in a series of rounds say every three or five years and play it out like poker where someone can fold and be removed form the game. Their country becomes abandoned but they don't get punished and anyone wanting to take over has to meet the current total of the bets so far to buy in thereby emaking up the difference and anyone in the game came go all-in but can get more than the max pot based on their total contribution matched by the other active and inactive players not to exceed their individual contribution each. I think that makes sense. Then any differences would be side pots and the eligible person with the most SCs when the game ends gets the side pot. It would be a sort of modified WTA with draws chopping each pot amongst the count of players eligible for that pot.

You started it, I responded in fold
Jebus Zombie! You two quit acting like three year olds. K?

Onto more important shit. What do you think of *my* idea for a poker-like variant?
I like it, though three to five years is an offly long time. Maybe once every even year there could be a betting phase. Only problem is what if say i came along and bet 100? there would have to be a cap bid that is the smallest player's available funds, right? Or maybe side pots, but i feel that would get crazy complicated to keep track of very quickly.

Also, anyone else kind of feel like playing mafia/werewolves?
I was thinking side pots plus pot limit bets. Every other could work too on the years but thought the pot could get to be way to big.

So longest of 1066 yet, finishing in 1083. Well played by Shep and Goldfinger, it was probably one of the most exciting games (at least imo) I have played in a while.
