My idea for a new tourney is somewhat different than Fasces's. The details:
Players needed: 63 or 84
84 player setup -
There will be 3 brackets of 28 players each. Each bracket will be split into 4 regular 7 player matches. Each match group will play 2 games simultaneously. They will be anonymous and 36 hours phases (subject to change if there's a dislike for that time limit). Upon completion of the 2 games, 14 players will advance. The top 3 from every match will advance, as well as the next best from each pair of matches. Scoring will be 19
for a solo, 18/n for a draw, and #scs/2 for a survive. This is to encourage playing for the win instead of playing for a strong second.
For example: in bracket 1, there are matches 1, 2, 3, and 4 which will each play 2 games. Matches 1 and 2 are a pair, and the top 3 from each match will advance as well as the next highest scorer from those 2 matches. The same goes for matches 3 and 4.
After the first Round is completed, each Bracket will have 14 players left. There will be 2 matches, with 2 games each. The same scoring system is in place, and the top 3 from each match advance as well as the next highest scorer of the 2 matches.
After round 2, each bracket has 7 players left. They will play 2 games, and the top 2 players will advance from each bracket to the final. That give us 6 of 7 finalists. The 7th finalist will come from the Loser's Bracket.
The Loser's Bracket:
In order to keep people interested after a first round, first game loss, I plan on implementing a Loser's Bracket. After the first round, 42 players will have lost. They will be split into 6, 7 player games which will be 24 hr phases and anon. They will play 1 game only. The 6 winners, and the 1 next best scorer will advance. They will be joined by the 21 losers from Round 2 matches. The 28 players will play 4, 7 player games with the 4 winners and 2 next best advancing. Finally, they will be joined by the 15 losers from the semis. These 21 will play 3, 7 player games with the 3 winners and 4 next best player a final game to determine who gets a second chance at the title.
As you can see, the further you go in the regular rounds, the less you have to win in the Loser's Bracket to have a second chance. In the event of a draw in the final match of the Loser's Bracket, a 1 v 1 game, or a 3 player game will be played to determine the winner.
The final will be played similarly. Anyone participating in a draw in the Final will play a smaller game until someone solos.
63 player variant:
The 63 player version is the same, except there will be only 21 people per bracket, going down to 21 in the second round. Out of those 21, 6 will advamce to the final, and 1 from the Loser's Bracket will join them.
The Loser's Bracket will have 42 people after round 1, of which, the 6 game winners will advance to be joined bythe 15 losers of the semis. The 3 winners and 4 next best of those 21 will play 1 final game to determine the winner.
So, who's interested? I'm sure I missed things since I'm on my phone, so please point them out and we'll figure it out. I hope this one can be as successful as the VDip Cup!
