I'm interested in playing some high bet gunboat games. Like 100 plus D points. Is there anyone interested in such games?

[Speed Europa variant] moving from Burgundy to Ruhr should not be possible
Hello,

As noticed by Tyran (user ID 2518) in the game "Wolf Pack v3" (game ID 58137) armies may move from Burgundy to Ruhr and vice versa (see the Map info tab of the variant's page) while the map doesn't say that. Maps on the external variant homepage also, so I suppose it is an error in the code, not the map.

[Speed Europa variant] Check Barrents Sea adjacency
In my current game (ID=58131), it says the Barents Sea can move to Serbia (rather than Siberia)

It also lists Norway as an option, though the spaces are not adjacent on the map.

Hey everybody. It was about time someone organised another cross platform Cold War tournament.

The tournament will be played wherever the players agree to play. Which means vDip will be hosting games. I have made a rule set on discord: https://discord.gg/kKnAuHN6kM - if you do not like discord I will communicate via e-mail. I will post updates here.

Great new variant - Bronze Age Diplomacy
IMHO a really great new variant with many options, constantly fluctuating balances of power, both fleets and armies with power, sensible offboard movement that makes stalemates hard.

This is a good one I think

Replacement(s) needed
Going through an unexpectedly busy period at the moment and can't really pay full attention to all of my games. I don't want to keep spamming extend or pause requests so I was hoping someone could take a couple of gunboat games off my hands. Only solid positions, including one board top. DM if interested!

Seems like the Danes should have sold Trump some of their surplus real estate when they had the chance.

Also, Twitter told me today that a hotel in Baltimore served Château Lafite, which they misspelled, and Château Margaux off of their breakfast menu in 1863.

gopher27: Don't be silly. As the video says, Greenland was granted autonomy way back in 1979. And what's not mentioned is that Denmark recognized Greenland as a nation in 2009 (Denmark had incorporated the Greenland colony into Denmark proper in 1953). It would have been unspeakably cruel to try and accede to selling Greenland just a decade later.
gopher27 (1606 D Mod)

My comment was obviously tongue in cheek.
@gopher27: Obviously, the hotel believed, and rightly so, that it is always "Premier Cru O'Clock" somewhere.

Jim Courier is an American Tennis player who made three straight French Open Finals in the early 1990s, when Men's Tennis had a bit more depth of talent. He won the first two before losing the third to Sergi Bruguera, who defeated Courier in the next year's semifinals as well.

When Courier won his first French Open, it was his first ever title on clay, and his four lifetime clay court titles were two French Opens and two Italian Opens (basically the top two clay court tournaments in the world).

The song "Midnight Train to Georgia", famously recorded by Gladys Knight and the Pips, was actually written as "Midnight Plane to Houston" with Glen Campbell as the intended singer. This is a semi-well known pop culture story. It was slightly re-worked to transition from a country song with a white male protagonist to a soul song with a Black female protagonist.

Yesterday, I learned that the song writer constructed the song after having a phone conversation with a not yet famous Farrah Fawcett who was turning down a social invitation because she was going to visit her mother. The song writer then imagined a man giving up on LA to follow her specifically back to Texas. BTW, my mom went through elementary school with Farrah Fawcett and my dad then went to high school with her. For those who are unaware of her, Farrah Fawcett became basically the incandescent, female sex symbol of the late 1970s in the US two or three years later.

Something that might be obvious to US-citizens, but not me: One of the 50 US states is basically a mormon state and it is Utah.
Would love to see a US state map of Diplomacy players, or board sales or something. I reckon Utah would be close to the lowest.

The lowest as in at the bottom or the Iowest as in most close to being Iowa?
gopher27 (1606 D Mod)

Something that I know, without having learned it recently: One of the early areas to originally convert to Mormonism was an ethnically Danish enclave. As a result of this reality and the sustained higher fertility rates of Mormons, this community of Danes dramatically multiplied. Thus in the US, ethnic Danes rank as among the most actively and observantly religious among all ethnic groups in the US. My Scandinavian friends have pretty consistently found this reality more than a bit surprising.
