Umbletheheep, I call for a series of tournaments, one each for players inside each 100 point Elo rating range. (e.g. 1000-1099, 1100-1199, Agnaar plays themselves in Duo. . .)

I would be most pleased if Agnaar joined this game. Put his high ranking to the test. Given that he gained like half of it after one solo, it should prove whether or not the high ranking is warranted!

Can I suggest different threads for different points bands, and keep this one to the 2000+ folks (sorry gopher for being snobbish on this one.)

Sorry, but I am not interested. I am planning on taking a break from Diplomacy soon because I've gone over 2 years without a break in games. Perhaps another day (assuming I still retain my teetering over 2000 status)

So based on Oli's maths we just need to follow up with 9 active players.

Since I guess no one else has done it yet, I have just messaged all 2k+ rated players who have visited this site in 2020.
I don't know where Oli gets the number 16 from. According to the HoF, there are 18 active 2k+ rated players, though 'active' here just means 'visited in the last 6 months'.

@ drano019: i ve nothing to prove and I put my ranking at test on regular basis; I just love the game. You can invite me on any variant to play with anyone : I ll join with great pleasure if the variant worths it and I don t have too many games going on regardless of the points i can win or lose.

Agnaar - Cheers for your perspective on ranking! I think there's a handful of us on here that pick and choose based on whether we like the variant and feel like playing at the time as opposed to based on how well we can boost our ranking. Glad to hear you're amongst us!

That said, if it's gunboat, I'm out.

Not to derail the thread, but in regards to the ranking system, there's people on this site who only play gunboat, people who only play full press, and people playing everything in between. Realistically the difference between gunboat and full press is such that they're completely different games, and it's ludicrous to compare players of each. But, it's also impractical to have rankings for every press type. If anything, the solution would be to restrict the mega-variants to being PPSC. I think Amby would be at some ridiculous ranking if his Divided States game were WTA like Agnaar's game, no? But, at the end of the day, as others above has said, is there much of a problem since it really is just fun and games?
