Winning target SCs don't work?
I just tried to create a Classic game with the winning number of SCs as 34 and the site just didn't want to do it. Is this a bug, or a system put in place?

Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Changes to make PPSC better
Currently, the PPSC system rewards points in a solo. It has a number of perverse effects on gameplay. In the subsequent post(s), I will outline changes that could reform PPSC and reduce its detrimental impact.

Two winners in a game?
What happens if a game is set with winning conditions lower than 50% of all SCs and two players reach that goal in the same season? Is it a tie? Does the game continue until one has more?

Illogical Rating Assignments
Take a look at the following link:
https://vdiplomacy.com/hof.php?gameID=37006

Now, you can see the "brains" of the rating system. As you can see, the system deducts less from a player who CD'd than a player who kept playing and survived. Why? Shouldn't players be held accountable for their CDs?

Ready Button Retreat Bug
I'm Britain in this game:
https://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=37793

I have a retreat due. There is only one valid retreat location. I click the "Ready" button, but it's not saving the retreat. We're playing with rulebook press, so there is no "save" button currently.

Caucasia
I think the variant Caucasia would benefit from being played with a set end year and winner takes all. One could think of Caucasia as a tight C-diplo scoring variant.
ubercacher16 (1585 D)
10 Apr 19 UTC
I think Caucasia would also benefit from a build anywhere or transform rule, if not both. Right now it is impossible for Armenia and Chechnya to build fleets or ever get them and because of this Russia is nearly unkillable because they can just hang out in Sevastopol and nobody can get them except for Georgia and they have to build two fleets to do so. Speaking of, that problem would be fixed by making a land connection between Sev and Kra(the nearest land territory).

Just my thoughts. I would love to try a set end year version of this variant though. What year did you have in mind vixol?
vixol (1601 D)
10 Apr 19 UTC
8 years is suitable. With a set year it makes less difference that Sev is almost untakeble. It just makes the alliance having to adapt to that. But I agree, a transform rule would solve the problem. On the other hand, with Russia able to keep Sev it makes more sense to NOT attack Russia from the start which is a potential equalizer.

BTW, the fact that here is an uneven supply center count makes a 2-way draw impossible. That is a decided design. The variant is made to be chaotic.

Great, we will have to find more players though :)
Goblin_Priest (983 D)

Yea, the Sevastopol SC is weird, in that nobody in their right mind would build 2 fleets there to dislodge Russia.

Chechnya has a much more solid starting position than most, imo. Georgia has a pretty crap starting position, basically surrounded on all sides. As does Russia, though they get the Sevastopol perk I guess. None of which are fatalities though, just doesn't really look like a map I'll play a second time.

I have to admit now that I am the creator. The thought was to get a tight paranoid game played with an end year. I'm fostered by the notoriously non care bear swedish dip hobby after all :)
Goblin_Priest (983 D)

Yea, tight's all right. A time cap might be a good idea, I'm not yet familiar enough with the map to make much of an opinion on that. The Sevastopol thing really is the only thing that bothers me, design-wise, it's certainly not typical of any variant I can think of that a player can have any given SC without anyone being able to take it from him without crippling himself. Building any fleet at all on that map is very taxing, but building two, on the same sea? Better have *really* trustworthy allies covering your ass! And given the map, you'd have to be pretty foolish, imo, to trust your ally and do this.

Can't really think of any specific fix for this, though. Removing it completely, I guess?
ubercacher16 (1585 D)
10 Apr 19 UTC
I think making a land connection between Sev and Kra would probably work.
Goblin_Priest (983 D)
11 Apr 19 UTC
Make it less bad, perhaps, but I still have a fairly hard time imagining anyone building the required fleet to pull it off, unless the "build anywhere" rule was added, or the one that lets you switch unit types.
Enriador (1507 D (B))
11 Apr 19 UTC
Given vDip's current code limitations, I think Build Anywhere is a good setting for Caucasia.

Maybe transform is better?

I would say so.

Do we have support for army-navy transform? I don't recall a variant here that has it.

If an option, transform would certainly be a better fit, more subtle than build anywhere!

Known World 901 and Divided States for sure. I think maybe a couple of others as well.
Enriador (1507 D (B))

He, never played them (so far). Shouldn't be hard to apply it to Caucasia then.
I really love this man's design, so I have my own ideas. The left corner of the map really needs to be improved, since the 3 northwestern centers can essentially be permanently held. There needs to be one or two more provinces there
vixol (1601 D)

Enlighten me, I am open to design suggestions.
Goblin_Priest (983 D)
16 Apr 19 UTC
I've seen the tranfsorm rules on some variants, though I have not played them. It would indeed be the ideal solution, I think.
Well besides adding multiple centers and a land province(s) between Sevastopol and Stavropol, as well adding Transforms.

Other suggestions:

1. Turkey needs to be split into 2-3 provinces. Anything to make the SC it gives 2 moves away from Armenia. Maybe a coastal Trabzon province.

2. Azerbaijan is far too weak. They have no chance at taking any of the centers near them except Nag, which is horrible defensive positioning.

3. Russia desperately needs another SC at the start in the middle of their lands.

Bone
My friend group and I have decided to shift all of our games from WebDiplomacy to VDiplomacy after the "Incident". Apologies for all of our bone games that will cloud up the search bar. However feel free to join any of them that you want, the password will always be the same, bone (unless we actually want it to be just us, in which case the password would be something else). Language may be offensive because some of my friends don't understand common decency.

A while ago, some players in threadID=80668 discussed playing another Newspaper game. Meanwhile, more than 7 players have shown their interest to participate in it, but no consensus on the specific settings of the game has been reached yet.
