Replacement Germany?
We need a new Germany is a World IV game: http://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=648

In a decent position, but not great. Have a strong ally but a couple strong enemies too. However, a new person might be able to change the diplomatic situation since I believe the wars were as much personal at this point as tactical.

Souldn't Thrace have 2 coasts (east and west) in Greek Diplomacy? http://vdiplomacy.com/variants.php#GreekDip
Illium is a canal, similar to constantinople, but Thrace, equaling Bulgaria in classic, should have 2 coasts, shouldn't it?

I have a problem
Today I can't save or finalize my orders. After few seconds i push save or fnlz, the page becomes blank; you can wait hours but, although the Mozilla circle spins, nothing happens. So I reloaded the main page and tried again. I tried 10 times unsuccessful, then I tried saving 1 unit per time. Sometime it works, but it took 1 hour to complete a 9 units game. Help! Any advice?

Sengoku Discussion?
Hi. I'm interested in trying out a Sengoku game after I'm done with the game I'm in now. I'd like to read up a little about folks' experiences first, though, and I can't find any discussion here. If you've played one of these variants before, sound off and let me know what you thought.

It was actually Guaroz who suggested it, I was just explaining it further...
RoxArt (1732 D)

well with butterheads suggestion 2 times in the heats is ok, but I would say that we start playoffs earlier not only for the final with best of 5 series!

and on ties also a best of 5 series
Devonian (1887 D)
15 May 11 UTC
In a round robin format, if there are 15 players, each playing 3 games each, that's 42 games, just for the preliminaries. Then 5 games for playoffs. I might have to quit my job to be in this tournament.
butterhead (1272 D)
15 May 11 UTC
haha, thats why we are talking about heats... but for it to work well we need one more player to make the heats even... it will cut down on game totals...
I will play. This sounds pretty exciting.
butterhead (1272 D)
15 May 11 UTC
we already have you on the list super. you were one of the 15.
ok I was just making sure.
butterhead (1272 D)
15 May 11 UTC
yes, your included in that...
so how many players are there total.

Here is the list as of the time fasces said he was not accepting any more... I think we need one more to make it 16, but thats up to him...
Why not just do a double elimination with two game per head to head and the winner is the one with the most CS's.
butterhead (1272 D)
16 May 11 UTC
because if you get matched with someone who is just legitametly a better player, you still have a chance by beating the other players... or if you struggle one set of matches you can recover... plus, what if you get an 18 center solo, and in the other one the other guy gets an 18 center solo? then its a tie, and you have to do a tie breaker... this way is just a little easier, and you play more people.
So how long are we planing on making this last. If we play two games at a time with full day phases. Thats what its going to be right?
butterhead (1272 D)
16 May 11 UTC
possibly, but as you know, 1 V 1 games do take less time, heck, if you get lucky and your opponent is online at the same time, you can finish in like, an hour and a half max... it will probably take 2 or 3 weeks total after it starts...
Which is when exactly.
butterhead (1272 D)
16 May 11 UTC
according to fasces, next week he will release the schedule, which means either next week or the week after will probably be the start...

how will we go about reporting match results?
should we just send all the gameid's to whoever is running the thing?
It would be cool if the bracket was posted and updated somewhere that we could all look at
gman314 (1016 D)

I would like to join, making it 16.
fasces349 (1007 D)
16 May 11 UTC
To answer some questions (sorry I have been rather busy tonight):
1. We will have one more person joining. Next person to sign up can join.
2. Format:
There will be two groups of 8 people. Which group you are in will be dependent on where you live (to increase the odds that you will be online at the same time as people in your group)
Each person will play each person in his group 4 times. 3 D for a win, 1 point for a draw.
The top 4 in each group go on to the playoffs. which will have this format:
Series 1: 1a v 4b
Series 2: 2a v 3b
Series 3: 3a v 2b
Series 4: 4a v 1b
Winner of 1 and 3 play each other
Winner of 2 and 4 play each other
Winner of the semi finals goes onto the finals

The series will played like this: First to lead by 2 games, imagine it sorta like tennis, to take the match you need to win by at least 2 games. This means you pretty much have to win (or at least draw) a game when you are the underdog team, this guarentees that the players going are the most capable.

3. We will probably officially start playing next weekend.
butterhead (1272 D)
16 May 11 UTC
forum probably... and I think I can help with that if fasces wants me to...
fasces, gman in for 16?? or are you set to not let anyone else in?
fasces349 (1007 D)
16 May 11 UTC
4. I will create probably 3 threads (after this) for the tournament. The first will be the Schedule, serving to remind people who they are playing and when.
The second will be to posting results, so everyone can see the games and stuff.
The final will be to post standings, where once a week I will update the standings based on all the games that closed that week.

5. Gman314 is the #16, we now have the full list. I will be sending all 16 of you a pm in the next 1/2 hour to:
1. confirm entries
2. to ask for peoples timezones, so I can have an easier time forming the schedule

I will then wait for everyone to respond (which will hopefully be within the next 3 days) and then the following day I will make the schedule. Hopefully this should be done by Friday

I just read through the whole thing and I have some ideas of my own.
1. You don't need to play a balanced map if you're making sure to alternate countries.
2. You don't need (or want) a best of odd-number series. Play an even number, making sure that everyone has each power the same number of times and then you count the SCs in each game for a total. You might end up with ties. That is fine for a round robin.
3. You don't need such a massive round robin. You can play with groups of 4 and have the top two advance to a new round robin or playoffs. That way you can also keep the entry open. Then most non-primes will work. For example, at 18 you have groups of 6, at 20 groups of 5. You just need to figure out how to make an even number advance.
4. If you want to even nations then you should talk to Oli quickly.

These are just my ideas. They do not need to be used. Also, I would only be available if Fasces is accepting one more and I would prefer to wait to August to start or to do it really quickly.
gman314 (1016 D)
16 May 11 UTC
Wow. A lot happened as I was typing. Are we planning to do the power balancing or not?
fasces349 (1007 D)
16 May 11 UTC
1. Which is why the players have the option of choosing the map, in the result that they can not agree on a map, it goes to I v G

2. How it will be set up is first to lead the series by 2 games takes it. Meaning you have to win at least once (or draw multiple times) in order to take a series.

3. However what if the 4 best players happen to be in the same group? The larger the round robin the more accurate the playoff brackets will be. For future tourneys we could do this, but not our first one.

4. given the # of games, it would probably be easier to, when creating them, create say 10ish (they each cost 1 point) and cancel 8 of them, so that you have 2 left, 1 for each country.

5. Starting date, according to most people, is the sooner the better. This will probably last the entire summer, so if people need to be out for a week for the purpose of a vacation, let them temporarily pause the game. As long everyone finishes their last game at around the same time it shouldn't be to bad.
gman314 (1016 D)
16 May 11 UTC
OK. Good solutions. My concern regarding start date is that I will be away with almost certainly no access to a computer for two weeks. I guess then that that means I shouldn't play.
fasces349 (1007 D)
16 May 11 UTC
when will this 2 week period be?
butterhead (1272 D)
16 May 11 UTC
that is alot of games... playing 7 people 4 times each? that is alot... thats 28 games just for preliminaries...
fasces349 (1007 D)
16 May 11 UTC
True, reducing it to playing 7 people 2 times each...
