Any Toki Pona speakers?
Just wondering if there's any crossover between the Toki Pona community and vdip :)

New Divided States Map
I felt like making a Divided States map which I named “Well, rip us” (for obvious reasons). If anyone who is reading this hasn’t joined, they should as this could be really fun.

Etiquette of readying your moves
I’ve notice that a lot of people stop readying their moves—even retreats—when the game isn’t going their way any more. Is there a strategic explanation for this or is just to pout?

Chinese 2020-2021 Diplomacy League is so exciting!
The Chinese Diplomacy League games have been in "New games" for two years..? -_-
Unless I'm missing something about the Chinese way of playing Diplomacy, maybe it could be a good thing to delete these games? :)

Airplane units
Several years ago, I played a Dip game that I could not fully recall. Not the people I played with, the power I played as, or the exact changes to the rules. All I could remember is that the map played on involved countries all over the globe; that, alongside armies and fleets, it featured aerial units (and even nukes)

New Variant, Comments Wanted: Flowery War
This is a 5 player variant set in pre-Aztec Mesoamerica. I do not believe any previous variant has tackled this subject matter. Rules and abbreviations are on the map. One notable rule is a unit conversion/transformation option.

Spring Training
Hey all, just wondering if we have any baseball fans here and if so what are your thoughts as your team starts playing games. I'm a die hard Minnesota Twins fan and am eager to get the season underway. The off season was filled with big money moves and I guess we'll see if those will pay off for the teams that went " all in " and spent.

New Variant: Twilight of the Classical World: Comments Wanted
This eight-player variant is set in an uncommon era, between the fall of Rome and the rise of Islam, toward the end of that period, in 609, during the Heraclian revolt against Emperor Phocas. I welcome comments or criticism. Variant rules are on the map. Check out the variant at https://davidecohen.wixsite.com/diplomiscellany/twilight-of-the-classical-world

When I saw the description, I expected the Sassanians to be more menacing and for the Arabs to play a role. But neither of those comments are really relevant to a Diplomacy variant.
Well, Persia is a Power here and they had just annexed the Lakhmids, which is why I gave Persia access to Himyar/Axum and Ghassan.

If this variant had been set just a bit later, there would certainly have been an Arab Power. I have multiple Arab Powers in WW901/KW901, but this is a different era.

The Frankish Kingdom is a bit too "boxed in". There are so many provinces between it and the Lombards/Avars, that its only "easy" expansion route is the Visigothic Kingdom to the southeast.

Movement tempi between Franks and starting SCs of:

Visigoths: 7
Lombards: 13
Avars: 13

I just can't see an alliance between them happening, 95% of the time the Frankish player will go like "why bother" and just slash out at the Visigoths.

Overall though it looks like a really solid variant, as usual. I think it is the first variant ever set during the Heraclian Revolt.
Hello Enriador, and thank you. Perhaps you have a point, but it isn't always about the starting dots, especially when the rule is Chaos builds. There is a fat cluster of neutrals between the Franks, Avars and Lombards which I expect could prove tempting. In that circumstance, the Visigoths could be an ally, or if it turns out to be the Franks and one of the others against the third Power in that particular triangle, the Visigoths might decide to stay out of that conflict, and go after the Exarchate of Africa instead.

Time, and playtesting, will tell.
Enriador (1507 D)

I agree the map design seems to initially push the Franks towards that SC cluster, but that has just 3 SCs and it is still far more challenging to build upon success in that area by going against Lombards/Avars than refocusing on the Visigoths right next door.

The Visigoths' goals also overlap with the Franks' in Tarraconensis and Armorica, which might be further cause for tension between them. The Visigoths cannot easily open against the Exarchate either since Toletum doesn't border the Tyhrrenian Sea. I just find it hard to picture Visigoths and Franks reliably pulling an Austria/Turkey-style alliance here with an army/fleet split or something similar.
An F/V alliance in this variant should be significantly easier to maintain than an A/T in Standard. Between the Chaos builds and additional avenues of expansion (even if not the easiest), the F/V alliance here would be a lot less constricted.
Enriador (1507 D)
31 Mar 23 UTC
Ah yes it should be easy to maintain once the alliance exists. The point is the alliance existing in the first place, given the initial centers of gravity.

How do you plan to playtest it?
Some changes. Other than cosmetic stuff and a few name changes, I moved the dot to in Barcino south to the newly created Valentia, and changed the unit to a fleet with options to move to Ligurian Sea or Tyrhennian Sea. I combined Barcino and Tarraconensis, and combined Tolosa and Aquitaine. I think overall, this gives a better interaction among the Visigoths, Franks and Lombards. The Franks now have a decision to make with Tolosa, since the Lombards have at least a somewhat reasonable anti-Frankish opening, and the Africans need to be more concerned about the west. The Visigoths can force Tarraconensis if they choose, or just opt for a defensive move there with the fleet while sending the army to Carpetania. Up north, I not extended Saxony eastward and eliminated Pomerania entirely, since it really doesn't serve a purpose anymore.

I don't think I want to move the border of Dalmatian Sea south. Since Pavia now may need to cover in the west, and Verona still has other things to do, Beneventum is more likely going to need to move or support to Roma, since with the addition of the second Visigothic fleet, Roma can theoretically have three foreign units moving against it. I think that these changes improve the balance among the western and central Powers.

Has anyone ever played diplomacy in school?
I know I myself was ever able to, but some relatives did when they were in school. But perhaps some of the older players here played diplomacy in their history classes. I'm curious if anyone here has and if they have any cool stories to go with it? And maybe it's still used as a learning tool today yet even.

How do excused NMRs work?
So on a game I was playing in, it says something around the lines of "1 excused NMR / regain after 5 turn(s) / extend the first 1 turn(s)". So it leads me to believe that you get an excused NMR back after 5 turns, and wouldn't go into civil disorder.

Hey all, kestasjk from webDiplomacy.net here.

I have a feeling this is going to get shot down straight away but that's totally fine; just want to lay out a long-term proposal for merging the code bases and see whether it's worth thinking about or if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Position within the Diablo 4's five classes

What they won't see is a wide variety of bodies, at least for each class. The Barbarian is strong and muscular for their position within the Diablo 4's five classes. The Sorcerer/Sorceress class looks strong enough to be able to lift books and wands, but they're not nearly as lean and athletic-looking like the Rogue.
