Variant Cataloging
I've been trying to keep track of variants made. Recently Stephen Agar came back on the scene and I am helping him amass variants over the past 20 years or so of his inactivity. I've made a google spreadsheet that contains the ones he's cataloged on his various websites and added a bunch that I knew of. I've also made a form to submit variants to be cataloged.

To my German friends on here...
...wasting time on the internet today...and came upon a Uniper announcement about gas-to-oil switching at a power station and saw reference the German Federal Government's policy around "Ersatzkraftwerkebereithaltungsgesetz".

Can't quite figure out what classic electronic dance music has to do with energy policy, but then I guess it is central to all aspects of German culture at this point.

Great to see appreciation for one of the most important electronic music bands.

The word means "replacement power plant readiness act", we just like sticking words together for some reason.

Do you have a word for your national love of sticking words together?

If one invents all of the foundational components of something, how then would one be "one of" the most important practitioners of that thing?

I do know enough German to understandably read the word....it just seemed so ridiculously German that it made me smirk.

How difficult would it be to make "Urdeutschewortverbindendeliebe" a word?

People told me that the Germans did not know how to tell (or take) jokes.

Those people lied to me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG62zay3kck

(for those who do not speak German well enough to follow)

1. There’s a girl in a small town named Barbara.

2. She is known for her rhubarb cake.

3. So they call her “Rhubarb Barbara.”

4. To sell her cake, she opens a bar.

5. Among her regular customers were three barbarians.

6. They have beards.

7. When they wanted to get their beards trimmed, they went to the barber.

8. He goes to their bar to eat some cake and then wants to drink a special beer.

9. This special beer is sold at a specific bar.

10. The bartender's name is Barbie.

Greek political parties expel elected members for mere accusations of public corruption? Who knew? I mean what politician doesn't keep a few hundred thousand Euros in cash around the house?

In the US, one can be convicted by Congress as a Florida federal judge of taking bribes to influence the outcome of trials and then be elected to serve in Congress as a member of the majority party that convicted you...the way the democratic gods intended. Although, I have to admit that my personal favorite was the Congressman found with $90,000 hidden in his freezer who was then re-elected by his constituents so that he could stand trial as their Congressman. Admittedly, trying to compete with Louisiana in such things is often a fool's errand.

Which maps variants are best designed in your opinion. Not necessarily your favorites. I’m thinking those that give fun and interesting gameplay for all players, but you can use your own criteria.

Phase Swap?
In the "Create a New Game" tab, when you select the "custom phase length" option, a new drop-down menu appears: "Time Until Phase Swap." It has options ranging from "No phase switch" to 6 hours. I can't find any documentation on what this does. Does anyone know? Does it make retreats and builds shorter than movement turns? Any help would be appreciated!

Provocative Question
If Xi Jinping had been recruited as a long term, deep cover agent by the CIA (perhaps during his visit to Iowa) a la Günter Guillaume, Anthony Blunt or Eleanor Iselin, what would the CIA have him doing differently to sabotage China as a potential competitor of the USA?

As mentioned recently, the forum could use a little reboot with some casual but relevant conversation. Naturally, then let me ask all of you to discuss your favorite variants here, and then we can all tell you why you are wrong

Those who know me well will not be surprised that I say Rinascimento and Germany 1648

New column in the variants list?
Was browsing statistics and was thinking it would be sweet to see the standard deviation of the performance values listed on the variants list page. That way you could essentially sort the collection by how balanced it is.
