Public Grey Press Newspaper Divided States!

We have literal maps called chaos, you know we enjoy it

You know what we really need? FoW, Public Grey Press, Chaos, Divided States.

Chaos Divided states would mean that basically every single person on this website would need to join that game. I love it

But in all actuality, having grey press and fog of war, while in some of the larger variants it would make it too hectic (and because of that a lot of people won't join I think), but in smaller variants it could add a whole different level of complexity

In the past Oli tried to avoid changing too much of the original webdip code to preserve easy transfer of webdip's code changes. The variant interface on the other hand is designed in a way that code can be easily changed in a restricted environment without changing the original code. Hence rules like Grey Press or Chaos got their own variants.
But I agree that a more custom rule set might be fitting for vdip, though I do not have a solution for the maintainability add hand.

That's said it is unfortunately even more unlikely to get FoW as an option for all variants as this would require a major modification in all variants, specifically a redrawn map and some further data input on coastal areas and islands. One could use the source png for the interactive map though as a temporary solution. Though the optical appearance of the map would be rather ugly in many variants.

That's quite fair. Would it at least be possible to have grey press be an option for all game types? It would create some new game styles, and would also make certain niche games (such as newspaper grey press fog of war) significantly easier
