Feature Request: Friends List
Similar to how the site already has functionality for muting and blocking other players, we should be able to add them to a friends list so that tracking them down to send PMs is more convenient. It would also make hosting games with players you know you enjoy playing with much easier. I don’t believe that this feature is currently in the issue tracker, and it seems like it would be very easy to implement given the current muting and blocking features already in place.

Yet another variant is coming: Manifest Destiny III. It's set in North America during the conquest of the Wild West.

[Variant] Florence Diplomacy
What happens when you move two little dots around?

'Florence' is a simple variant - more of a variation - set in the Classic map. It has two goals:

1) Make Italy & Austria slightly more capable

2) Be simple, without any new rules or spaces

*The standard rules of Diplomacy apply, except where modified below:

1) The home supply center and army at Venice (Venetia) are moved to Tuscany (Florence).

2) The home supply center and fleet at Naples (Calabria) are moved to Apulia (Taranto).

3) Army Rome is replaced by Fleet Rome.

In Florence Dip, Italy works kind like England. Heavy naval expansion first, followed by army builds and convoys once there is a firm foothold somewhere (Iberia, Balkans, Turkey, Austria, etc).

Bouncing in ADR is like bouncing in ENG: good for defense, but terrible for offense, so it should be a real dilemma for Italy/Austria.

It's important to note that Italy will actually have a harder time to win with this variant, but draws will be easier. It becomes quite a Wicked Witch of the Center.

A SC at Venice enabled easier LAND reach of several northern and eastern centers, like DEN, HOL, WAR, SEV. These 4 centers are one season further away (5 rather than 4). Convoys will be Italy's primary method of quickly reaching somewhere.

Since a growing Italy will have a harder time reaching these places, conversely Italy will also have an easier time defending from more powerful French, German or Russian players. Expect Italy to join draws far more frequently as Piedmont/Venetia form a powerful barrier from invading armies, while Italy's early advantage in fleets cement control over WES and ION quicker than in Classic.

It's important to stress that Italy can now reach a second neutral SC in 1901, something impossible in Classic! Austria can ask for a bounce in Venetia in exchange for supporting F ION-GRE (which can only threaten Turkey, never Austrian Serbia).

Turkey may also be willing to support Italy into Greece, in exchange of a promise of building Army Florence/Rome and Fleet Bari (Taranto) against Austria.

So, this early boost may cover up a lategame's reduction in number of easy SCs.

I named the Apulian SC as Bari at first, but since it got the same abbreviation as Barents Sea I changed to Taranto. I hope it's better.

Moves to Victory in FLORENCE DIPLOMACY:

POWER: N° of Moves to 18 SCs (Difference from Classic)
ITALY: 42 (+6)
FRANCE: 37 (-1)
ENGLAND: 44
GERMANY: 34 (+1)
TURKEY: 44
AUSTRIA: 34 (+1)
RUSSIA: 30 (+1)

(The lower, the better).

I hope that pretty soon @Sky_Hopper, since it's so simple a change!

I'm working on a rules-page about our 4 press-types.
Someone willing to submit some guide what these different press-types are, and what these mean for playing the game?

Imbalanced map?
It seems as if several maps need some balancing work. For example, England* v Turkey is skewed toward England, and in Rinascimento, the French are virtually at the hands of other players’ wills.

Hello, I have a problem
Hello, I have a problem. I am going away for a few days (tomorrow), and I don't know how to quit the game I am in. There are 36 players, so I cannot reasonably ask for all of them to pause --- besides, there isn't enough time --- so I am stuck.

Playing with fewer players
Hi all!

I know this is probably a noob question, but I need to resolve this issue: is it possible to start a game with fewer players than those normally expected? I tried it once with the Rinascimento variant, but the game didn't launch just because there weren't 12 players.
Thank you in advance!

New convoy-code.
Thanks to tobi1 we have a new and improved convoy-code.
This was really a problem for all "big" variants.
Very cool you could solve this problem. I did take a look at your code, but I'm absolutely clueless... :-)

Gunboat specs
If the "Gunboat", "Public Press", or "Per Rulebook" rules are employed, shouldn't the game be automatically "Anon" as well? If it weren't, then players could just PM each other, defeating the purpose.

Question about social norms for players
In a large game, a reliable player asked the mods to extend the game for Easter. The request was general and largely in the name of other player: "Hey guys, it's Easter, and in a big game, some people will probably be traveling to see family." The extension was granted, and requests like that are likely to be accepted.
