Just make sure it's not a stupid game move, one that will cause you to let someone else win(like attacking Turkey relentlessly even when he tried to offer peace to you in a gunboat by letting you into Black Sea AND France is getting really strong and Turkey is the smallest power in the game with a stalemate set up against you as Russia) and you should be ok. If it puts you in a better position to win, and won't convince everyone in the game to come after you, go for it...

There are many articles about stabbing. All make a valid point (sometimes two points).
Mencken's Conjecture states "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats". As I have grown as a player, there are now many games where I value an alliance over the chance of victory. However, if given the chance to get to 16 centers and 2 easy centers are a simple stab away, it is sometimes difficult to resist. Temptation is very difficult to resist. Depends on my mood and how the day has gone so far.
Look at the stats of the better players. They win sometimes, draw most of the time and they survive. Losing is not an option. Stabbing can produce more losses. To be good at stabbing, you have to learn when not to stab!!

missing phases wha? we talking about the same game? the only phase you missed was like, the very last one... the game I am talking about was a specific 4 person Gunboat in which you attacked me from turn 3 and I successfully held you off and France took the win.

yes I mean that game. haha. and too be honest, I never intended to fight you. I wanted to form an alliance with you, and I only bounced you in Black Sea in 01 Spring as precaution, I was hoping that by letting you in in Fall you'd have realized I wanted an alliance.
