New Divided States Map
I felt like making a Divided States map which I named “Well, rip us” (for obvious reasons). If anyone who is reading this hasn’t joined, they should as this could be really fun.

Etiquette of readying your moves
I’ve notice that a lot of people stop readying their moves—even retreats—when the game isn’t going their way any more. Is there a strategic explanation for this or is just to pout?

Throwing the game
Since messages from people complaining about this have reached us quite a lot in the last weeks:

Throwing the game in favour of another player at the expense of someone else is a legitimate tactic and not an issue we can or will intervene in.

However, maybe we can have a small discussion here about the use, or the lack thereof, of such tactics.
It's definitely a threat, and somewhat in line with self-preservation, in a twisted sort of sense. If you're going to die anyways, why not choose the winner yourself?

I do it out of spite sometimes, "bugger you - I'm going kamakazi on your shitty little short sighted attempt at a stab"

My most recent was in this game,
https://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=53329#gamePanel
where I was holding off a very strong Mediterranean attack, preventing the Ottomans from an expansion into the Atlantic. England decided to stab me for a dot or two, so I threw in the towel because there was literally no point at that stage, and went 'crazy Eddie' against England. Basically throwing all my SCs to Ottoman expansion and doing weird annoyance moves against the English player.

Throwing is a completely sensible tactic, but everyone has different tolerances for shenanigans and it is hard to see these things from the other side. I respect those who say they would never engage in throwing, but that is not a legitimate reason to disparage the tactic.

Since this is an online game and there's often anonymity too, the players complaining should consider what they did to so antagonize the throwing players. Any board game where you can interfere with other players has king-making issues, but that's part of the game. If you stab someone and they have the choice to go down fighting you or to go down fighting the "honest" opponent, it's not surprising they'd choose to fight the stabber.

I find it reasonable to throw at times if someone is deserving of it. If someone makes a stupid stab or stubbornly refuses to have peace, then I'll usually do my damndest to help someone win.

I don't know that I would throw a game, per se, but I certainly fight to the death, doing everything that I can tactically and diplomatically to survive. If that means that I need to aide the winning party cross the finish line, then so be it. I don't really view that as throwing the game. If I'm not going to be included in a draw, then what else am I supposed to do except try to escape that death trap any way I can?

I mostly play gunboat. Generally, if I'm fighting neighbor A, and at peace with neighbor B, and then neighbor B attacks me, then I will usually turn to focus on neighbor B instead of neighbor A. I don't reward people for being the next person to attack me just because I'm vulnerable :)

A significantly more annoying thing is when I'm winning a war, and no resistance whatsoever is given, even though the opponent isn't NMRing. I would rather my opponent be replaced than give up and not give the spot to a more willing player.

Even if it was argued that, ethically, you should always try to get the best result possible, threatening to throw a game is an important tactic. Even if you have no intention of following through, it can be very powerful. More than once this has saved me from the brink.

I won't comment on whether or not I actually would throw a game, though. I usually prefer to play anon, but sometimes I don't and I'd prefer to maintain some uncertainty there ;)

I also agree that it's reasonable to throw a game if a player is under a terrible attack or stab.
But there is one occasion that I dislike throwing. Assume Player A has a chance to win. Everyone else is trying to stop him and form a draw. But Player B chooses to throw the game to A when no one is attacking B (so that he can surely survive in the draw). This seems annoying.

Throwing the game, also called Kingmaking, is a legitimate tactic in all multiplayer games. A good winner does not destroy anyone quickly or brutally enough to inspire a Kingmaker, instead slow and subtle.

Airplane units
Several years ago, I played a Dip game that I could not fully recall. Not the people I played with, the power I played as, or the exact changes to the rules. All I could remember is that the map played on involved countries all over the globe; that, alongside armies and fleets, it featured aerial units (and even nukes)

Spring Training
Hey all, just wondering if we have any baseball fans here and if so what are your thoughts as your team starts playing games. I'm a die hard Minnesota Twins fan and am eager to get the season underway. The off season was filled with big money moves and I guess we'll see if those will pay off for the teams that went " all in " and spent.

New Variant: Twilight of the Classical World: Comments Wanted
This eight-player variant is set in an uncommon era, between the fall of Rome and the rise of Islam, toward the end of that period, in 609, during the Heraclian revolt against Emperor Phocas. I welcome comments or criticism. Variant rules are on the map. Check out the variant at https://davidecohen.wixsite.com/diplomiscellany/twilight-of-the-classical-world

Has anyone ever played diplomacy in school?
I know I myself was ever able to, but some relatives did when they were in school. But perhaps some of the older players here played diplomacy in their history classes. I'm curious if anyone here has and if they have any cool stories to go with it? And maybe it's still used as a learning tool today yet even.

How do excused NMRs work?
So on a game I was playing in, it says something around the lines of "1 excused NMR / regain after 5 turn(s) / extend the first 1 turn(s)". So it leads me to believe that you get an excused NMR back after 5 turns, and wouldn't go into civil disorder.

Position within the Diablo 4's five classes

What they won't see is a wide variety of bodies, at least for each class. The Barbarian is strong and muscular for their position within the Diablo 4's five classes. The Sorcerer/Sorceress class looks strong enough to be able to lift books and wands, but they're not nearly as lean and athletic-looking like the Rogue.
