Finally a new variant: A modern Europe.
Quite an impressive first release from Kurt.

Lose less points when you replace a player?
Should we really lose as many points when let's say. You replace a player who is in a decent position. Only to upon entering the game automatically start in a terrible position. And then lose 20 points in a game you had 0 chance of surviving in. Should you really lose those 20 points? What If you lost less points when replacing a player to make it less damaging when you start in terrible positions. What you guys think?

The IST province in modern Europe
It appears that there are two IST provinces (Istria and Istanbul). For Istria, that doesn't look like Italy's modern borders, especially as it removes Slovenia's existing coast in today's world.

Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Improving Fog Of War
Fog of war applies to a few maps, classic, 1998, and such; but it seems like a simple add in. How hard would it be to get FoW as a setting rather than variant property? I would think there are many maps and games I would like to try with it, but it's only on a few things. There are also some variants like Rat Wars, that can only be done in FoW. Just wondering if this was a possibility?

I support this suggestion. I find Fog of War quite interesting. It encourages you to communicate with as many players as possible, because that's quite often the only way to get any information about what is happening in some areas of the map. Diplomacy becomes absolutely crucial, even if you're winning. Plus, it's great fun trying to decide if they're lying to you or not....

I, despite never having spoken to this Macca guy before and not knowing him in real life, also support this suggestion. I do believe that, if it is not too hard to implement, it would be a great addition to the site and could add some fresh variety to some older variants.

And who wouldn't want to play FoW 1v1s? It's already been brought up in that thread. I'm in favour of still keeping classic FoW on the site though, purely for statistics reasons.

Ahh, interesting point you mention there Bob, also I person I have never met. I hadn't thought of what this would do to statistics. Unlike the other settings, this one can drastically change the nature of the game.
Hmmm....
I still want it though.

It is unfortunately not possible to make FoW a general setting for all variants without significant effort. A FoW variant requires the server to know how to color sea territories and most variants do not provide this information. The pool of our variants is just too large to quickly add this information to all those variants.

It would be a cool and is a long-requested feature though ...

So to do it, someone would need to color the sea territories the way land is in the map files?

I think if a bunch of us work at it, we can get it done pretty soon. I can't claim to know all of the variant stuff, there could be more, but if this is a much requested feature I'm sure there would be loads who want to help.

I could totally play my part by updating a few variants in Microsoft paint :) I actually would though, that's where I draw up all my PNGs.

Could it be done so there's a running list of variants that have FoW when you click it as an option? Like, the drop down list for variants would only show the variants that could have the FoW setting applied to them. That way not every map needs to be done at first

Historically, the Ancient variants, especially the Ancient Med, would really benefit - Punic Wars is already FoW as the default ... no modern comms then!

Perhaps we could also provide the option for some variants(1066 and the aforementioned Punic Wars) to be NOT FoW? Maybe this is not of very large demand, but I've always wondered what it would be like to play those maps without FoW.

Was the Munich Agreement a British diplomatic coup in 1938?
Neville Chamberlain died on 11/9/1940. Chamberlain's brother had won the Nobel Prize for Locarno, which has explicitly stated that the UK viewed Germany's Eastern border open for revision and was only committed to defending Germany's Western border. Other than getting Hitler's signature on an agreement that he then violate in less than 6 months, I see no other way that Chamberlain could have gotten a treaty with Poland ratified or instituted peace time conscription in a democratic society.
