Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Was the Munich Agreement a British diplomatic coup in 1938?
Neville Chamberlain died on 11/9/1940. Chamberlain's brother had won the Nobel Prize for Locarno, which has explicitly stated that the UK viewed Germany's Eastern border open for revision and was only committed to defending Germany's Western border. Other than getting Hitler's signature on an agreement that he then violate in less than 6 months, I see no other way that Chamberlain could have gotten a treaty with Poland ratified or instituted peace time conscription in a democratic society.

Betrayal
Diplomacy is a game about betrayal, but how can you avoid other players raging at you when you betray them?

First of all, it's not your responsibility to stop other players from raging at you when you betray them. Betrayal is part of the game, and someone who isn't able to accept that should go play a different game.

That said, being raged at still feels bad. In my experience if you're always polite and frame things as "nothing personal", you can avoid the worst of it. There are also often players who are obvious from the start are going to get angry - I personally just tune them out in advance.

Some players get angry as a tactic to try and get people to not follow through with the stab. Something like, "I can't believe you made such a stupid decision! Why would you do such a thing! Turn around before you are attacked from behind!"

But some players are just irritable, and some people are irritable. There isn't really any way to stop them from exploding. Just treat them with respect and a "just business" attitude and they will give it up.

Can you provide an example where someone raged after getting betrayed by you (not from an unfinished anonymous game) and how your and his press looked like? Then we can discuss what might be reasons for the player raging and how you can avoid them.

I hate it when people betray me in a game. Yet its sometimes fun to betray others in a game. Damn this duplicitous irony.

For me, I always expect betrayals, but I am most upset when I see them occur at (what appears to me to be) the expense of the betrayer. For instance, our UTTER HELL game could have easily ended a 3 way draw, and a solo was fairly unlikely, but instead ended a 4 way draw due to the betrayal.

I have another example, this game:
https://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=39583#gamePanel

Where the Nords betrayed me because I was going for solo, but it was PPSC, so they got less points forcing me into a four way draw rather than finishing in what could have been essentially guaranteed second place.

That being said, we all make our own risk/reward analysis, and just because I think your decision was riskier than it was worth, doesn't mean you're in the wrong.

I thought it was a great idea, I'd just forgotten that retreats exist.

People will get upset if they feel they are being played upon. Some will rage about it but best is to treat them in polite and respectfull way regardless. After some time rage will end and normal comunication will continue.

Others will be more pragmatic and continue with diplomatic talks. Usually these are more experienced players.

I almost never respond to rage with my own rage. I learned that is never a good thing. In one game I did rage back but that was part of diplomatic trick I was trying to play. It worked and I got solo for it that otherwise would not be possible.

Conclusion is that emotions are to be expected periodically and that is normal. We are all humans after all. What I don't like is that some people react to being out played by spreading cheating acusations. It happened to me twice from what I recall. This behaviour is very damaging for game and players involved.

Anyone want to take this world game?
I'm playing in World Peace Simulator-2, gameID=39267 , but I'm about to go away and am unsure if I'll be able to input my moves. If you are interested, PM me and I'll tell you what country I'm playing. I don't want to just say it here as the game is anonymous. Then I can use the country switch tool to give it away. Please take a look if you are interested.
Thanks!
