why?
DonQuigleone (1037 D)

I'd like to sell 20,000 in german bonds, at 7% interest, for $1100 minimum. They should yield $1350 over 5 years, so buyers can expect to earn $250. These will mature faster then the bonds being sold by germany currently, and likely earn a higher interest rate then germanies current offerings.

Look forward to hearing back from you guys.
fuzzyhartle1 (856 D)

I don't think you can sell my bonds for more than what I set them up for. but if they want to make more money then they should buy a new one ;)
orathaic (952 D)

The 30 remaining Russian bonds on the market have seen sufficient demand tha my economic advisers have recommended reducing the maximun interest rate to 4.5%

To all investors who hold Russian bonds, feel free to contact me to discuss investment strategies.
fasces349 (1007 D)

you can sell German bonds on the secondary market for whatever you want.

For more then they are worth if there is a high demand for German bonds, and less if there is low demand.
fuzzyhartle1 (856 D)
17 Jun 12 UTC
But wouldn't that mean I have to pay a higher interest rate if they sell them for 7% but bought them at 5%?
fasces349 (1007 D)
17 Jun 12 UTC
he can't change the interest rate on them, only the bond price.

The maturity value (the amount you pay at the end) and the interest payments (amount you pay per year) will remain constant, regardless of what it is sold for, however he can choose to sell it at a different price.

So no one but Germany has bonds available? And don't come out saying you got German bonds that will sell if your a creditor or what not.

Its still the spring phase, the auction wont be few another few days, possibly more then a week if we extend the phase...

In addition to German bonds I'm also interested in selling on my Russian Bonds:

I have 20,000 privately acquired at a 6% rate. I would be interested in selling these for 1,100 each (negotiable). These should yield 1300 over their lifetime, so any buyers would earn 200 over their lifetime. This is similar to any yields on the bonds Russia will likely issue in the future (he likely will lower his max interest rate even further).

If you bought all 20,000 you could expect to earn $4000 in 4 1/2 years (rather then the 5 years you could expect with newer bonds).
DonQuigleone (1037 D)
18 Jun 12 UTC
Furthermore, I also have French bonds I'd be willing to sell. Again all prices are negotiable:

20,000 French bonds at a rate of 7%(yield 1350 each), these I'll sell for 1100 each.

50,000 bonds at a rate of 10% (yield 1500 each), these I'll sell for 1200 each.

Hope you all find these interesting.

There will be 30 Russian bonds available on the Primary market, currently looking at a maximum of 4.5%.

DonQuigleone and I had a nice chat the other day in person. Mostly i was asking what he was doing selling German bonds... I approve that he is now being smart (trying to raise funds to invest further, because he knows that once an investor has nothing to invest he is weak... not that i would dream of defaulting just because an investor has nothing left... :p)

Private conversations about my bonds and interest rates tend to offer better deals. hence the 6% private bonds he currently holds of mine... but i'm only currently making 30 bonds available at public auction. I am still happy to discuss matter privately.
DonQuigleone (1037 D)
19 Jun 12 UTC
@Orathaic: I believe the rules are that interest rates can only be in integers (IE 1%, 2%, not 1.5%, 2.5%).

At Orathaic's current public offerings, the buyer should earn ~200, which is inline with my offer. However, my offer will give full yields 1 year sooner, so should be a better bargain for anyone looking to buy Russian debt.

I'm not sure if this has been agreed or discussed before, apologies if it has, but I was wondering how are countries supposed to redeem all bonds every 5 years? Once we get to the first maturity some countries will be unable to pay and this will mean they need more bonds in order to pay old debts. However if the creditors do not have sufficient finance, e.g. all creditors lend 75% of their money with not enough to repay themselves essentially, how do countries pay everything back? Do they have to renegotiate, default or both? Basically I would fear that after year 5 countries will struggle to pay back debts.

Anyone have any thoughts?
fasces349 (1007 D)
20 Jun 12 UTC
Bonds are redeemable after 10 years. And they'll probably have to pay with the cash raised from more recent bonds.
orathaic (952 D)
20 Jun 12 UTC
DonQ, you're right, i forgot - i'll have to amend that... perhaps hold at 5% (but next year reduce to 4% if there are any bonds left...)

KingKong, I assume that investors will have cash on hand to lend from all of the interest they've been paid.... at least the successful investors... and those with either that or bonds repaid early.
KingKongKill (1035 D)

Money is not working if it is not lent out. Therefore keeping my stock low means I make more interest. Explain to me how someone who takes 300k out over 2 years pays it back in two years with interest and expenses? As the game progresses each government will have a smaller and smaller surplus, demanding more and more bonds, further reducing the pool of bonds available in the market. Therefore if 3,4 or 5 players early on take large loans they will find its increasing difficult to pay off these debts.

However as the bonds only mature after 10 years massive default is the most likely outcome and only creditors who have lent small amounts to very successful countries will regain any of the initial capital invested.
DonQuigleone (1037 D)
20 Jun 12 UTC
I thought bonds were redeemable after 5 years. Why hasn't anyone corrected my posts that implied 5 year bonds? Or maybe no one was reading them...
fuzzyhartle1 (856 D)
20 Jun 12 UTC
its 10 years. i never noticed your posts.
orathaic (952 D)
20 Jun 12 UTC
10 years. Kingkong, income versus upkeep may not proceed the way you expect, on the verge of default players will not be able raise new units.

Thus their income can stay ahead of their upkeep, while comparably unsuccessful govts will be forced to underfund units - this will serve to balance the lower unit count of the more successful... I don't know exactly what the balance will be or which govts will best balance it.

And if bond can't be repaid after ten years, i'm sure private extension deals can be made with interest paid... And the end of game all supply centers produce $$$ to pay off remaining bonds.
fasces349 (1007 D)
21 Jun 12 UTC
It was 10 years, we had a debate between whether it should be 5 or 10 and we concluded with 10, I think that is where all the confusion came from.

A game where I am allowed to Meta-Game? O.o
Competition between you and your friends sure is fun, but sometimes its great to team up with them and conquer the world together. Well, if your looking for a game where you can do that then look no further. Sometime next week a game will be starting where you and one friend can team up to conquer the world. It will be a WWIV variant with two day phases. All that is required is that you message the creator, me, what country you are teaming up with.

Replacement player for the UK and Amazon needed. If someone will be nice enough, the UK isn't in a bad position. This is a team game, and you'd have to respect that, I guess.

Also is there already a thread advertising countries in civil disorder needing to be replaced? If not, should there be a forum thread just for advertising inactive countries?

Creating Teams into variant maps
Until now every Variant maps considers each player independent and able to fight any other automatically.
But could be interesting to develop a way to create forced alliance teams, just like a country split into groups unable to fight each others (being the same nation...) but able to be controlled by different players?
Into the game they could then choose if cohoperating or acting separately, but never being able to steal SCs each others nor dislodging armies and so on...
