A game where I am allowed to Meta-Game? O.o
Competition between you and your friends sure is fun, but sometimes its great to team up with them and conquer the world together. Well, if your looking for a game where you can do that then look no further. Sometime next week a game will be starting where you and one friend can team up to conquer the world. It will be a WWIV variant with two day phases. All that is required is that you message the creator, me, what country you are teaming up with.

Unless Austria and Italy are honourable enough...
So where do I go for a refund on my Turkish Piastres? Or do I have to keep them all in mint condition so I can sell them to a bank note collector in 100 years time?
Interestingly that well respected font of knowledge, Wikipedia, redirects the Turkish Piastre to the Kurus as the unit of currency (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Turkish_piastre).

I expect fasces and butterhead to now edit that entry and say the Turkish piastre was replaced in 1903 by the Italian Lira and Russian Rouble.

An interesting point of view is what you can see from Ranking. No rank was swapped last turn, but something changed in relative strenght of positions. In the following table you can see each one's gap from the first, both in the previous turn and now, and how it changed.
Everyone gained something except Amby, who've lost his 2850 Piastres that averagely paid 0.59$ each (so he lost 1510$. Also D33 lost something because of Piastres).

1903
Rk...Name..................Gap Spring........Gap Now.......Difference
..1.-.Guaroz................(46.459,09)....(42.579,09)..................N/A
..2.-.Ambassador..........-9.044,59.......-9.269,59...........-225,00
..3.-.tobi1......................-11.377,09.......-9.862,09.......+1.515,00
..4.-.gman314..............-13.899,55.....-11.009,90.......+2.889,65
..5.-.Devonian..............-16.185,56.....-11.447,57......+4.737,99
..6.-.drano019.............-18.867,59.....-17.337,59.......+1.530,00
..7.-.hiporox.................-23.762,24.....-21.629,94.......+2.132,30
..8.-.amisond...............-27.244,09.....-23.309,09.......+3.935,00
..9.-.L.Podolsky...........-29.928,09.....-27.026,09.......+2.902,00
10.-.Diplomat33.........-37.734,09.....-35.264,09........+2.470,00

Since Devo's the one who gained the most (actually, also amisond gained something: 55$), these are the relative gaps for this turn

..1.-.Devonian............(+857.99$)
..2.-.amisond................-802,99
..3.-.L.Podolsky.........-1.835,99
..4.-.gman314...........-1.848,34
..5.-.Diplomat33.......-2.267,99
..6.-.hiporox...............-2.605,69
..7.-.drano019...........-3.207,99
..8.-.tobi1...................-3.222,99
..9.-.Guaroz...............-4.737,99
10.-.Ambassador.....-4.962,99

Now someone may object that since basically everyone lost something nothing changed that much. Well yes, infact Ranking in Net Worth didn't change. What changed a bit is the relative ratio of what everyone's owning. This is:
Someone's Net Worth / Total Net Worth.
It changed a bit last turn, with 4 people gaining something and 6 people losing:

...........................Difference.........Spring...........Now
..1.-.Devonian........+1,04%.......10,95%......11,99%
..2.-.amisond..........+0,47%.........6,95%........7,42%
..3.-.gman314........+0,39%.......11,77%......12,16%
..4.-.L.Podolsky......+0,01%.........5,98%........5,99%
..5.-.tobi1.................-0,09%.......12,69%......12,60%
..6.-.hiporox.............-0,14%........8,21%.........8,07%
..7.-.drano019.........-0,26%.........9,98%........9,72%
..8.-.Diplomat33.....-0,33%.........3,15%.........2,82%
..9.-.Guaroz.............-0,40%.......16,80%......16,40%
10.-.Ambassador...-0,70%.......13,53%......12,83%
----------------------------------------------------------------------
TOT column..............0,00%....100,00%....100,00%

Only +1.04% for my friend Devo. Nonono, guys . It's not good.
Although he's very close (11.99%) to them now, he didn't even outranked gman, tobi & amby.
Guys, yes Devo got more than double Lire than anyone else, so he gains more than anyone when somebody's buying them. But 5,200 pieces are not enough yet. If you want to make Devonian the winner, you must buy more Lire! :-)

King Atom (1186 D)

It's obvious. Guaroz is winning right now and stands to gain the most from maintaining the status quo.

I'm kind of annoyed that KA got eliminated. I was hoping to do a neat little flip on the Piastre by asking a bunch of people to buy up to 500. Then, we could all sell in the fall for a decent profit. It won't work on the Franc though because too many people will be selling those.
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
04 Jun 12 UTC
@fasces
[Again? Please stop breaking rules talking about investors'strategies. It's a game you're not in and you must not talk about while it's ONGOING. Like I cannot say you're tricking canaduh on your Global Chat, you cannot say an investor is tricking another on this thread. They're 2 different games. Thank you.]
That said, well fasces, looks like you've bothered to read only the last 4 lines of my previous message. Numbers say that when somebody buy Lire, Devo's Net Worth is pushed up much more than any other. After last turn, Devo (11.99%) is breathing on the neck of people who were far away 2 days ago: gman (12,16%), tobi (12,60%) & amby (12,83%).

@gman314.
Well yes. I want to mantain the status quo. That it's mantaining itself, btw, even getting better: actually, the gap from the 2nd following me (Amby) just increased by a 0.30%.
But the only one who, ATM, can reach me at my stratospheric 16,40% it's not one of you three at 12% or so. It's Devonian. He is scaring me, not you.
You should put your efforts in finding a way that makes YOU win. I don't understand why you're trying to make Devo be the winner. It makes no sense...
I wouldn't complain on our Global if someone who's playing well is reaching me. I'm complaining because someone is reaching me only because it looks like someone else isn't able to make his pocket calculator work. :-)

PS. Can anybody explain to fasces that whether the Lira is worth 0.01$ or 10.00$ or anything in our game, he still needs 18 SCs to win his game, hence he'd better focus on it and leave us alone? This is not Bankroll.

gman314 (1016 D)

Guaroz: I really don't think that Net Worth is a reasonable metric. The amount of paper funds you have is really not meaningful because of the sales cap. Victory points aren't really a good metric either because those can change quite a bit. I think the best metric right now is actually Available Worth. Your Available Worth is the amount of money you can muster on any given turn. So, at the start of the game, every player had a NW of $7000 but an AW of $3500. In AW, Devonian actually drops behind significantly because his holdings are concentrated. While Ambassador can sell 500 of everything if he wants to, Devonian can only sell 500 Crowns, 500 Lire and 100 Pounds this turn, putting his AW significantly lower. Also, purchasing Lire has nowhere near the effect on Devonian's AW as it does on his NW, so Lire is actually not as bad a purchase as you're making it out to be.
Devonian (1887 D)
04 Jun 12 UTC
I jumped from 5th to 4th place... by not losing value along with everyone else. Kind of funny that this is scary!

Guaroz wants to drive the Lire down so he can buy up more than anyone else. Thats the bottom line.
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
04 Jun 12 UTC
@ Devo
4th place.... in which ranking?

"Guaroz wants to drive the Lire down so he can buy up more than anyone else."

I can buy Lire... with what dollars? I got all my money stuck in investiments and I own only 56$.
There are people owning thousands dollars.... they can buy more Lire than me at any time.
I don't understand what you mean, unless you made a mistake and you actually meant:
"Guaroz can buy up LESS than anyone else."
fasces349 (1007 D)

Guaroz, The value of your holdings are way more than anyone else. If you can get people not to buy lire one more turn, and you sell, you can buy up plenty.

Actually, I'm 4th place in $ and 5th in VP. Guaroz is in 1st with both, by a large margin.

Also is there already a thread advertising countries in civil disorder needing to be replaced? If not, should there be a forum thread just for advertising inactive countries?

Creating Teams into variant maps
Until now every Variant maps considers each player independent and able to fight any other automatically.
But could be interesting to develop a way to create forced alliance teams, just like a country split into groups unable to fight each others (being the same nation...) but able to be controlled by different players?
Into the game they could then choose if cohoperating or acting separately, but never being able to steal SCs each others nor dislodging armies and so on...
