Let's say you got 0 Lire, and everyone holds except Devo who sells 500 and you who:
Buy 100: you lose 4$, Devo gains 75$.
Buy 200: you lose 6$ , Devo gains 150$
Buy 300: you lose 6$, Devo gains 225$
Buy 400: you lose 4$ Devo gains 300$....
Buy 1,000: you gain 50$, Devo gains 750$
Buy 1,100: You gain 66$, Devo gains 825$....
Buy 2,000: you gain 300$, Devo gains 1,500$
Buy 2,100: you gain 336$, Devo 1575$
...finally...
Buy 8,000 Lire (spending 10,240$); you gain 6,000$ as well as Devo.

Now you may say that you 're not alone. Well, say you are 2 now.
You buy 100 each: you lose 3$ each, Devo gains 150$.
Buy 200: you lose 2$, Devo gains 300$
Buy 300: you gain 3$, Devo gains 450$

So please, keep in mind that for small purchases, Devo will be gaining from 3 to 30 times what you'll gain. And for middle-purchases, difference will be less than 3 times but thousands dollars worth.
Do not buy lire, unless you are ok with you being the second and Devo the Winner.
Within a couple of turns it'll be doable, maybe the next turn, if we all sell. Please, discipline! Don't give the win to Devo for a few dollars!

You'd have to by 3500 Pounds to make the same profit Drano would on that transaction, you'd have to buy 2000 marks to beat out Tobi, 2000 Francs to beat out Amby, 3300 roubles to beat out Amby and 3900 Piastres to beat out amby.

Lastly they would have to by out 8000 crowns to make the same amount of money you would in that transaction.

Before anyone thinks the above post says you should fortify in once currency and one currency alone, that is incorrect, as you couldn't make a profit and so therefore would be unable to own more then 7000 in said currency without first making a profit on something else (I am assuming that currency has a price of $1 when you invest in it, could be less, could be more).

You gained 300$ over Guaroz & someone else and you lost 1,200$ over Devonian? Good. If you want to gain 1 or 2 positions in your ranking accepting Devo will win.
Current situation on Lira reminds me Fubar. The first little country that stab another little or ally with Fatflap will have a nice 2nd place, but Fatflap will win.
