It would be cool if there was a group of some of the better Vdip only players vs a group of the best Webdip only players and put the debate to rest.

I'd be up for it, provided it's not the solos-only rating-system that's being used in the Master's at the moment.
Also, some variants other than Classic in the Tournament would be nice - that way we all have some time on home turf, as it were.

I'm #8 in the VDip ranking Hall of Fame (http://www.vdiplomacy.com/hof.php) so I guess I'd probably go in the better Vdip players category. I can vouch for GOD being good enough to go in that category too.

I'm not sure I'd personally have enough time to play in the tournament, but I know a lot of webdip players would. Have a split of the games, classic, held on webdip and the rest which would be variegation, held here.

Make the scoring based on solos and draws (percentage of total supply centers needed to win that particular variant). That way it's a fair scoring across variants.

I would play, I have an old account on WebDip if it is to be held there, but I would play for the vDip side! I haven't used that account in about 2 years.

Im being told in private channels this probably isn't a good idea because it wont be competitive. :/

What do you mean competitive? Like we have no chance?

Depends on how many people you pull in. Too large a group and yes, it probably wouldn't be competitive. But I wager there's a few people on here who could hold their own against the webdip team, especially once Classic isn't the only map played.

If it get scaled too big, it won't be competitive - simply because of the size of the top tier of players on WebDip. I would say the top 400 all-time on WebDip are comparable to the top 40 here.

That's a really big assertion there Mr. Finger. The top 400 all-time is not a particularily stringent division. I am pretty sure the guy at 398 and the guy at 390 are probably nothing alike. While they might be but it would just be coincidence.

My assertion is that the top 40 here are better than the top 40 on webdip. I mean, isn't jmo in the top 10 on webdip? And that dustbag 2WL is in the top 10 GB.

I rather like the assertion that our top 40 is better than their top 400 since I happen to be in the top 40 :p although if I could rep Vdip I might actually be tempted to make an appearance on webdip, I have an account on there same username and all that jazz, but the question for me is would we eventually tour the Vdip variants or play straight up webdip classics (classic, Ancient Med, small world)?

I should note that I have fallen fromt he top 100 on this site while I don't think I have fallen out of the top 100 on webdip for a couple of years.

If the V-Dip community doesn't mind, I'd like in on this mini tourney.

The variance is such that one, two or ten games is pretty much a crap shoot. If you look at the "Hall of Fame" players at the very top and take out the 1v1 games you will see a large amount of games where they are defeated or survive.

Meh. Still fun, though.

I am ranked 134 in points, 11th in ghostrating this month, 2nd this month in PPSC, and 34th overall in ghostrating. Win/draw percentage of 36/34%. Players like MadMarx, Babak, djbent, and a few others are in a class all their own, but I consider myself one of the better players on the site. I won't make any claims like goldfinger, I'd love to see the top tiers of both sites compete. (I'm not sure what rankings you consider the most telling here so I included all of the ones we use on webdip).

@Sandgoose, that would be a problem if any of the games are to be hosted on webdip.

It would be kind of cool if us "lower calibur" players voted on representatives and the same for webdip. Or it might be too much of a hassle, just an idea :p

I rather like the idea of the sites choosing their representatives although it might be easier for us to do that on Vdip then they would on Webdip given the size of the respective communities.

@jmo - I was referring to the new HoF rankings here. I don't quite think they are all-encompassing as they tend to favour certain types of games but regardless, they are somewhat important. There are points here, I rank higher in those.

I have played with MM, Babak and djbent. They are great players, I agree. There are other great players over there also. I believe players here like drano, Devonian, BeauLemioux, captainmeme, Leif Syverson, Avram, and others are in the same class. Dejan is the best player I have encountered and he appears to be more of a vdip guy at this stage ;-)
