16 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1901: GameMaster: Please remember that negotiations before the game begins are not allowed.
16 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1901: (Agnaar): Go to Norway, I dare you. ;)
17 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1901: Info: This is a choose your country game.
17 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1901: Haha ;-) maybe I will ...
17 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1901: Aggro french : this guy? https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/vial-smasherreyhan-aggro-french/
17 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1901: nope, i don t know that game. I play poker where we use the term "aggro" a lot; so the name made sense here since i am going for the most aggressive french opening i can think of.
17 Apr 23 UTC Autumn, 1901: I'll be impressed if you can wriggle out of this one!
17 Apr 23 UTC Autumn, 1901: The French position in the Med from WES isn't that much stronger than if that fleet were in Spain South Coast. In the circumstances, it's probably not worth giving up the SC. France could really use a second build here.
17 Apr 23 UTC Autumn, 1901: It is much stronger than being in Spain; it means this year i ll be either in Tunis or Ionian sea...very strong position.
I agree with you with the second build though; i might lose quickly.
Mar-bur-mun or Mar-spa-por are probably more reasonnable to open like this.

That army in tyrolia in first year is very powerful too. I guess Bre-atl-spa, par-bur-bel and mar-pie-tyr is my favourite opening for France.
18 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1902: Spain/Tyrolia/Belgium is a strong opening indeed. I see why you would favor it. (Or favour, if you prefer.)
18 Apr 23 UTC Autumn, 1902: In the same spirit of sacrificing center for position, moving alb to ion with Austria against a french opening in Atlantique is interesting in the first year. That grants you Tunis and forces the French to bring a second unit there.

(grew up in France, developped in America, retiring in Asia...feel free to use any spelling you like)
18 Apr 23 UTC Autumn, 1902: Interesting life path. As you can probably tell, I am American through and through.

There is a game to be played in the Med if one or the other opens with an aggressive move toward Tunis. For example, if Austria opens to Ionian in Year 1, it can be more or less assured of taking Tunis in Year 2. But if France is in Spain after Year 1, it will be in West Med in Spring of Year 2. Then there is a guessing game in Autumn of Year 2, with Tyrrhenian Sea. For Austria, either guess is dangerous. It seems better for Austria to pick up Greece in Year 1, still can contest for Tunis in Year 2.
19 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1903: Favor being the british spelling, I assumed you were European.

When Austria opens in Ionan Sea, the objective is not really Tunis. It s more about trying to slow down the French as much as possible playing a 1vs2 (i guess Fr often build a fleet in Mar year2) in Mediterranee.
19 Apr 23 UTC Spring, 1903: Now your positional play starts to pay dividends. Let's see what this does ...
19 Apr 23 UTC Autumn, 1903: ... [sigh of relief] ;-)
19 Apr 23 UTC Autumn, 1903: It's a whole different game if I guess wrong on Ionian/Tyrrhenian
21 Apr 23 UTC No, it s not working. Having to retreat in Spain loses the entire purpose to open in Med.
Well, now I know how to properly open with France, thank you.
21 Apr 23 UTC GameMaster: France voted for a Concede. If everyone (but one) votes concede the game will end and the player _not_ voting Concede will get all the points. Everybody else will get a defeat.
21 Apr 23 UTC Thank you for the game, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
