21 Aug 22 UTC Gg everyone.

Couple of tough decisions that I thought hard over this game - attacking Russia in S06 and attacking France in S09.

In 06, Russia seemed a better target than France due to them committing most of their units to the South, the rogue Italian unit in Livonia and France's support hold signal the turn before (meaning there was a chance France would keep peace long enough for me to take Nor/Swe/StP). Ultimately I felt if I'd have gone against France at that point it would have been a stailmate or very slow gains, but Russia were vulnerable in the North.

In 09, it was tempting to keep peace with France and move towards Warsaw and Austria, but I was conscious that France would make make gains faster through Italy than I would moving South-East. I could also commit more against France, as I needed fewer units at the time to defend my Eastern borders. I think I was only able to gain the upper hand in the end thanks to Italy's help in Marseilles, as well as Turkey's presence in the Med.
22 Aug 22 UTC Wow. I feel quite fortunate to be a part of this draw. Turkey could have crushed me at any point the past couple of years. France had me on the outs and then got annihilated.
22 Aug 22 UTC Agreed, gg all around.

My first 7 years or so were pretty reactive: mostly just lashing out at anyone who made threatening moves. In 08 I tried to signal that I wanted to help support the line around Warsaw and Moscow, but that got mostly nullified by Germany going after France and Russia taking Trieste.

09-12, my priorities were resolving the Italy-France war and locking down the east, since Germany was clearly becoming a solo threat. Finally, the last year of the game was spent trying to signal how important Bohemia was for us.

Some other notes/questions:
France, I think we could have kept you alive in Portugal and Spain at least, even in 1912. That would have at least made the final maneuvers in the east less tense, since we had a fallback line from Sev-Tyr. Was there a particular reason you kept trying to hold onto Brest?

Germany: I was actually surprised you took the shot in 09, when France had builds coming. I'd assumed you would wait until 10 or 11, when those fleets would be committed against Italy. Were you expecting France to not take all three dots that turn?
22 Aug 22 UTC Italy: a couple things indicated that keeping you in the game was the best option. 1. You had already demonstrated that you would throw dots when Russia took Trieste in 09, and 2. any units that I took from you would be at least 3 years from doing anything useful around Vienna. That was why I only dotted you when you wouldn't have the open centers to build. Otherwise, you were doing everything I wanted, so it didn't make sense to try to cut you out.
23 Aug 22 UTC @Turkey, it was a number of factors. I thought it was important that Italy didn't fall to France. I saw your support orders towards Italy in S/A08, and your moves against Russia in A08 too. Russia had just taken Trieste in A08, but didn't have many units in the South, and had no spaces for builds, so Italy would likely take Trieste back. Basically I took the risk to set up a possible path to a solo, although I really should have made an effort to take Warsaw much sooner for that to be successful.

I didn't expect France to get three builds in 09, or rather hoped they wouldn't. So I was very pleased with Italy's capture of Marseilles.
