30 Dec 21 UTC Spring, 1740: I didn’t realise it at first but being Spain must be the most awkward state of affairs I’ve seen.
30 Dec 21 UTC Spring, 1740: There's a reason they were a power in decline during this period
01 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: Also is no one going to talk about how Poland-Lithuania has 3 supply centers and isn’t a power?
01 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was not a great power by this time. The Russians repeatedly forced its kings and grand dukes to terms, it’s nobles and regions divided under an elected monarchy, and its rulers were frequently indebted to other powers.
01 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: I’m just 32 more years, 1772, it would suffer its first partition. It simply wasn’t a great power by this point.
02 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: I mean that is true, but if it is so weak, then why give it 3 centers? Game balance of course, but still?
02 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: If weren’t so many centres between Russia, Austria and Turkey and Prussia there wouldn’t be a good enough balance in the region between them. Then Russia would be line for Scandinavia I imagine and the other powers would be United against it. Balance is what makes diplomacy such an enduring game. Austria and Turkey would be beyond doubt the strongest powers on the map then.
02 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: Ok then. Just makes you think.
02 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: Salutations, fellow sovereigns of Europe, we, Maria Theresa by the Grace of God; Queen of Hungary, of Bohemia, of Dalmatia, of Croatia, of Slavonia, of Galicia, etc.; Archduchess of Austria; Duchess of Burgundy, of Styria, of Carinthia and of Carniola; Grand Princess of Transylvania; Margravine of Moravia; Duchess of Brabant, of Limburg, of Luxemburg, of Guelders, of Upper and Lower Silesia, of Milan; daughter of the famed Charles VI Holy Roman Emperor, do proclaim that with his saddening passing that the Imperial throne, its dignity, and office lies empty. Therefore, a new emperor must be elected by the Empire's princes, and being a woman Imperial law bars ourselves from assuming the title, we submit that our husband, Sovereign prince and duke of Lorraine, Francis Stephan, be elected emperor. What say you Electors?
02 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: The English king, as Elector-Duke of Hanover, the King in Prussia, Frederick, the Duke of Bavaria, and the King of Piedmont-Sardinia are all eligible to vote for our husband, Duke of Lorraine Francis Stephan, or their own candidates. What say you, my lords?
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: I say that a woman should lead the Austrian Empire, it is only fair after so many years of male rule.
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: Why not given that England reached its greatest heights under the rule of a meek and feeble woman...
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: You must understand my fellow sovereigns, we, Maria Theresa, reign in Austria but the Empire, the Holy Empire of the Romans is of a higher order. Salic law prohibits ourselves from assuming the Imperial throne. Therefore, we cast our vote for our husband Francis Stephan duke of Lorraine.
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: We are talking of electing a new emperor, not of my rightful post in Austria and it’s other dominions. I’m sure you all should wish for the Hapsburg imperium to continue.
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: You are the current regent, you can just get rid of Salic Law
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: We are not the regent, there is no regent. Do you the electors accept Francis Stephan of Lorraine as emperor?
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: Greetings, and best wishes to all, from Sultan Mahmud Han, Sovereign of The Sublime House of Osman, Sultan us-Selatin, Hakan, Commander of the faithful and Successor of the Prophet of the lord of the Universe, Custodian of the Holy Cities of Mecca, Medina and Kouds, Padishah of The Three Cities of Istanbul, Edirne and Bursa, and of the Cities of Châm and Cairo, of all Azerbaijan, of the Maghreb, of Barkah, of Kairouan, of Alep, of the Arab and Persian Iraq, of Basra, of El Hasa strip, of Raqqa, of Mosul, of Parthia, of Diyâr-ı Bekr, of Cilicia, of the provinces of Erzurum, of Sivas, of Adana, of Karaman, of Van, of Barbaria, of Habech, of Tunisia, of Tripoli, of Châm, of Cyprus, of Rhodes, of Crete, of the province of Morea, of Bahr-i Sefid, of Bahr-i Siyah, of Anatolia, of Rumelia, of Bagdad, of Kurdistan, of Greece, of Turkestan, of Tartary, of Circassia, of the two regions of Kabarda, of Gorjestan, of the steppe of Kipchaks, of the whole country of the Tatars, of Kefa and of all the neighbouring regions, of Bosnia, of the City and Fort of Belgrade, of the province of Sirbistan, with all the castles and cities, of all Arnaut, of all Eflak and Bogdania, as well as all the dependencies and borders, and many others countries and cities.
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: Defender of Belgrade?
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: You forgot to mention Arrakis.
03 Jan 22 UTC Spring, 1740: My dear Archduchess, I have inherited a commitment to defend Belgrade but to claim to its rule.
