04 Dec 17 UTC Autumn, 1546 BC.: GameMaster: Someone has taken over Athens replacing "I will conquer Ireland". Reconsider your alliances.
20 Jan 18 UTC You guys must be mind readers...
20 Jan 18 UTC Yeah, I have no idea how that worked out so well...

Nice work, Chumbles!
20 Jan 18 UTC A game I enjoyed more than any win! Tough from the start as I realised quickly that both Mikey and Mouse were not going to give me stuff! So I had to get big enough to be a potential alliance partner whilst being dangerous to take out as it would give a win to the other guy. Props to mouse for realising that and not attacking.

Mikey, well played, except for sticking an army on Imbros - a fleet would have earlier unlocked the stalemate line for you... Not much precognition was needed really, as the 'must not lose' strategic spots dictated where my supports went. A real pleasure t be a part if this game.
20 Jan 18 UTC I know the army there wasn't helpful but it was an early score, as was the army in Chalies... and in both cases, I was on a forward momentum so figured I'd be able to roll past.

I have to say that the level of prescience in your combined moves had me talking to the Mods, I could not believe how synergistic were some of the supports, especially the move supports. But now I see who was playing, I can see all the experience that was behind your reading of the game. I tried all kinds of combos of sea moves, but finally could see now way forwards - hence the draw. Only 3 short of a win too...
20 Jan 18 UTC If we were actually talking to each other, one of those Aegean->Skithos / Sea of Athens->Straights of Euboea moves would have been supported at some point in the last few years :p

Don't blame you for checking with the mods, though - there were a few turns there that almost would have had me doing it, and I *knew* there was nothing funny going on...

But yeah, good game. Rhodes played quite well defensively despite coming up on the wrong side of a two-front war. Early NAP/cooperation between me and Byz probably favoured me slightly (I think there were three separate instances of Delos S Chicos->Gulf of Ephesus, all incredibly useful), but later on it became apparent that we'd need a full co-op effort to hold you back, Macedonia, and just fell into that role defensively.

Definitely an interesting map - so many of the initial builds are armies, and yet so much of the actual conflict of the map relies on fleets.
20 Jan 18 UTC Yeah this is my 4th time on this map and I quite like it. Definitely a map where fleets project power and armies secure it.
20 Jan 18 UTC I also love the opening bidding; a friend of mine and I, fed up with the normal 2 player option in dip, designed Intimate Diplomacy in my tiny flat after dinner one night back in 1972, using a bidding mechanic and I've loved the idea ever since.
