Replace PPSC with something rank-based?
I've put together a length proposal over on PlayDip to provide a rank-based scoring system for draws that's similar to the Carnage system used in several North American Dip tournaments today.

Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

WWII Tournament
I would like to start a tournament. I've seen the Known World and 1v1 tournaments, and those are great fun. So why not apply it to World War II? I'm still working out the details, but I'll post some details.

Playtest of variant
Hi! I am trying to organize a playtest of a variant I created with some unique rules that made it not possible to implement on vdiplomacy (yet!). I have called it 'Feudal Diplomacy'. [See below for details!]

I have no motivation to keep playing turns, so I figure I could give my only game to someone who does. Sorry for making a new thread, I couldn't find the game-sitters thread.

1900 for vDip: Progress Report (ongoing)
As mentioned in another thread, I've been working on the code and assets necessary to port Baron M. Powell's variant 1900 to vDip and/or webDip.

In order to keep myself accountable in some fashion to actually complete this task, and not just talk about it, I've created a small project plan where I can mark my progress.

1) BAR is merged into NWG.
2) IRI is merged into NAO.
3) ENG is merged into MAO.
4) HEL is merged into NOR.
5) BOT and SKA are merged into BAL., while still maintaining the connection between DEN and SWE.
6) GOL is merged into West Med.
7) ADR is extended to touch GRE and NAP.
8) East Med is extended to touch TYR.
9) ION is abolished.
10) AEG is merged into East Med.
11) East Med is now adjacent to BLA.

That should be everything.

There's gonna be a lot of bounces going on...

Balance-wise: France will have reduced early-game power in the north since Lon-MAO will happen most of the time (Bre-MAO, Par-Gas, Mar-Spa). StP will become a lot more vulnerable, so Russias may end up sending 2N/2S more often (or just holding an army in Mos and sending War-Ukr). Russia moving to Fin in S01 is more viable if they go 2N/2S and try to avoid a bounce with Germany. Lepanto will be a LOT easier (yay Italy!), and Turkey will probably have a bad day with Smy, Con, and Bul all under threat. Outside of openings, the strait of Gibraltar is easier to hold from either side, and a lot more centers come closer together.

All in all I'd say that the countries that profit most from these changes are England and Italy, while the ones who suffer the most are Turkey, Germany and Russia, with France and Austria not really suffering much.

By eliminating several provinces, you have made this variant significantly more dense than Standard, which will tend to make the game more static and stalemate lines easier to form. You may want to rethink this.

I think making the variant "Build Anywhere" may help.
Sky_Hopper (936 D)

Or "Custom Start"?
Greenflame (1000 D)
Sat 02 Jun UTC
I think that anywhere where there's 2 SCs separated by one ocean space, there should be a fleet in each SC or at least adjacent to that ocean space. Custom start could probably solve a lot of issues.
JECE (1184 D)
Sun 03 Jun UTC
I think that the point would be to make ocean travel faster than land travel. That better represents the reality Diplomacy is supposed to mimic.
Greenflame (1000 D)
Sun 03 Jun UTC
It makes control of some ocean spaces a lot more winner-takes-all since you're merging several strategic locations into an area that one fleet can occupy.
JECE (1184 D)
Sun 03 Jun UTC
I wonder how the game would play with just 1 sea space, ha ha. Or maybe 2-4: Black, Atlantic and maybe Baltic and Mediterranean.

Lol.
I just got an idea: Classic Sealanes!

Taking over Civil Disorders should be free of charge
Reasoning: the player who takes over a Civil Disorder is not just putting themself in a precarious position (as they must evaluate everybody's styles and strategies) but they are also saving the game's balance and fun.

In order to reward/incentive people to take more CDs, I believe that making it free of charge (rather than current 50% discount) would be for the best. Thoughts?

Known World Tournament
Awhile back, kaner proposed a Known World gunboat tournament in which 15 participants would play 15 games, one with each nation. I searched back for the thread, then just decided to start a new one. I want to see if there would be sufficient interest in this to try to get it off the ground.
