obsolete Sengoku variant
Hi all, designer of Sengoku here. I would love to get the latest version of Sengoku in use on this system, as it is much more balanced. Found here: http://dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Sengoku
Even if the DP system, can't be used, the version at http://nairenvorbeck.angelfire.com/ is still better than the one in use currently. Poor Mori needs a fair chance :-) Anyone willing/able to help me get these implemented?

1 v 1 games on variant maps
I am not a coder (sic) so I was wondering how hard is/was it to code 1 v 1 games? Is it reasonable to think that variant maps (Modern, Ancient Med, etc) could be set up to create 1 v 1 games? The idea of having a larger group of countries to play against each other is intriguing. I just don't know if it possible, or doable.

How old school are you?
I am not very tech savvy so forgive me. I think I started dip on some RSS pages using Netscape at work in maybe 1996(?) does that make sense? All email based through Judges. What were they called? USDJ or something. I remember FROG but they all spoke French. Haha. I used to stand outside my office in the snow smoking a cig with a hand drawn map with about 100 crossing out for each phase using coloured pens. Ah web based interactive maps?!?! Luxury!!!

New Maps
I'm super new to the site and I was curious how new maps were made and/or submitted. I noticed a lot of the maps look a bit old and it got me thinking about what it would take to create a higher resolution version of a game map. Are there certain file formats a map must be in or is this all a responsibility for site admins only? Thanks!

This might be better in the Mods section, but I thouht I'd post here first to see if other users have any input.

I'm trying to create a new game with a custom phase length. When I select "Custom" from the drop-down menu, nothing happens. However, when I select "2 days, 2 hours", I've given the option to input a phase length. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

You said my fake claim was scum indicative.

In this setup you have 2 clears vs 2 scum.

If cop survives N1, and Doc survives N1 cop typically claims Day 2 on an inno or on a guilty.

If you use hypo*, town can garner reactions, stimulate discussion and see who acts like they know more than they should.

Hypo: a townie who poses as cop with a guilty. Its a guess and if real cop is aware of what that player is doing, or is not made uncomfortable by it; its incredibly powerful.

In my situation I truly felt DO was scum. I said it blatantly in my night posts and crumbed her as my scan to set up this play. If I were scum doing this, my extra layer of scumreading her, crumbing, and looking for reactions doesnt happen. As soon as she claims cop and has a guilty on snowy, I was aware that I could still use that opportunity to look for snowys teammate.

Normally such a play isnt harmful in this setup unless the following happens
¤your fake scan is doc
¤your fake scan was scanned inno
¤your fake scan is cop who scanned dead, because then you have to retract to save their life and town is in worse shape.

Now those are the worst.
But theres also these
¤you are correct, actually guess right 2/9 odds, and scum counterclaims out of panic
¤you are correct and real cop scanned the other guilty - game over
¤you are correct and scum has an awkward mixed reaction

My plan had a way to instantly win for town D2. I noted disrepency in demon. I misread it. And none of the worst case scenarios happened, we did in fact get snowy luckily, and of course I wasnt going to claim it was because of me. Ive played poorly and misread you. It happens.

That being said fundamentally cop always claims day 2 or day 3 in this small setup as long as they have a living clear or a living scum scan. So my fake claim came from this line of thinking.

Additionally theres another reason to fake claim as vt day 2.
Scum has every reason to fake claim if scanned guilty. Note snowy claimed doc. Scum only counter claims, they dont lead off with a fake claim because if their buddy is guilty scanned its insta loss.

What im trying to tell you, is the order of operations never goes
Scum fake claims
Real cop counter claims

Vt fake claiming erases the ability for the scum counter claim, and creates possibilities for landslide town win. Yes there are risks. Its a gambit. But the reverse gambit is illogical and doesnt exist.

You cant flush the cop out as scum because the risk exceeds reward. Conversely as town fake claiming, mathematically, strategically, fundamentally, the benefits are worth the risk.

Flushing out the cop, and roleblocking someone, and spraying that roleblock, faking a guilty, all of that combined as a scum strategy is effectively a 99% chance of autoloss. It simply wouldnt happen.
brainbomb (662 D)
20 Oct 17 UTC
Footnotes:

M29
ikaneko is cop with guilty on ghug

Hr is doc, HR suspects balki and fake claims he has a guilty on balki. This generates a landslide.

Balki counter claims thinking HR is real.

http://mafia.peterlund.se/e/web/msgs?g=29&part=p48

We did lose 2 PR for 2 scum. So overall was a failed gambit
brainbomb (662 D)
20 Oct 17 UTC
After M29 people said HR was wrong to fake the guilty. Not true. He was wrong for being DOC and faking the guilty. A VT faking there would be decisively less harmful and wouldve outed balki as fake and town gets a 2 for 1 special.
bozo (2302 D)
20 Oct 17 UTC
@brainbomb: In this case you have managed to make fake claiming as scum work by using your history of fake claims as town to escape suspicion.
brainbomb (662 D)
20 Oct 17 UTC
I used my ability to participate, question, and get things wrong and have a sense of dignity about it to prove unmistably that I am bleeding heart town. I havent escaped anything. I am able to get townreads this game not based on meta at all. This argument is totally false, you, uber and mouse have next to no experience playing in mafia with me other than peicemeal stories.

You know I am town and the fake claim does absolutely nothing to change that fact. My play, is that ive gotten everything wrong up to mylo. But regardless ive never made a scummy post this game and I challenge you to find an instance beyond the fake claim where my effort was flimsy, forced, nefarious, conrrived or anti town.
brainbomb (662 D)
20 Oct 17 UTC
If you believed what you were saying surely youd be mentioning that I fake claimed in M30 under sudden duress and with moments left in the day I became lead wagon. I claimed in a do or die situation -WHICH IS WHAT SCUM DO-. You fail to acknowledge the extreme circumstantial difference because its the only angle you have.
bozo (2302 D)
20 Oct 17 UTC
@brainbomb: I know you are scum, so I know you are saying all this for the benefit of uber and mouse, but what you are telling them is that everything you have done this game was done to look like you were town. Of course, that was your objective as scum, to look like town while trying to survive, and I admit that you have done a good job.

Day-1 00:45
page 15 I have been town reading ghug just last in the last two games I played, but of course in those games he turned out to be scum. What I learned is the ghug is good as scum and also very dangerous as scum.

$$VOTE ghug
----

I do not consider this to be a valid reason to ever lynch someone.

¤you dont actually say you are townreading ghug therefore hes scum

¤you also dont say you are scumreading him in THIS GAME.

¤you say that because of the last two games, lynching ghug is justified because he is dangerous.

The above statement is a justification for pressure voting someone. What made you follow through on his lymch?
brainbomb (662 D)

Duh?
Am I supposed to be trying to convince you?
Mouse and uber are my teammates. Im not paying lipservice to convince you I am town. Such an effort would be truly hilarious though. Im giving them the best chance to bring home a win and be aware of everything I stand for and what mistakes ive made.

##vote bozo
brainbomb (662 D)

So ive been thinking about how bozo voted.

Bozo day 1
Votes uber after mouse does
Votes ezio when it got popular
Votes ghug as demon was there, she left he stayed

Day 2
Votes snowy only

Day 3
Votes mouse
Votes teacon second and follows me

Day 4
Votes ezio first. Leads the lynch on ezio

The TLDR here is I didnt lead off on ezio. Bozo did. Yet I took the blame selflessly for his death anyway.

When would scum ever do what I have done

brainbomb (662 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
Thx uber its the right choice.
ubercacher16 (2196 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
Can you explain the post about voting again?
brainbomb (662 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
Sure. Bozo's voter habit is opportunistic. He always joins a wagon second. He looks for opportunities to get people lymched. He doesnt look for reasons his lynches are scum.

For ghug it was because hes dangerous
For ezio its because ezio is proposing a bad anti town strategy
For uber its the N0 stuff
For teacon its the fake claim stuff
For snowy its the scan (duh)
For ezio late game its not very well explained. He led the lynch but I dont know why he scumread ezio more than me.
mouse (1825 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
...I kinda want to tie it up for a no lynch then see who the scum actually kills tonight.

Actually...
brainbomb: assuming you're scum, who do you target tonight if today is no lynch (through tied vote or otherwise)?
bozo: same question.
Jamie_T (895 D)

VOTE COUNT 5.1

Bozo (2) - Brainbomb(End), Ubercacher
Brainbomb (1) - Bozo(End),

Currently BOZO is set to be lynched.

You have 2 days, 9 hours, 51 minutes left in Day 5.
bozo (2302 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
@mouse: To answer you question, I assume the remaining scum (brainbomb) would target whoever he targeted N4, unless he took his own advice and did not use the NK N4.
bozo (2302 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
@uber: brainbomb is summarizing my voting history in a way to support his argument, but if you review the actual reasons for my votes, you will see I voted for the players I thought most likely to be scum. In some cases I moved to a wagon, but in those cases I picked the wagon that I thought was most likely to lynch scum.
bozo (2302 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
@uber: brainbomb's need to manipulate quotes and misrepresent facts are telling.
brainbomb (662 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
Bozo why is that so hard to write?

Id kill mouse. You pretty much always kill mouse in this scenario
brainbomb (662 D)

Day-1 48:09
page 6 The exchanges with ubercacher about starting with night or day still leave me suspect. He clearly stated a preference for starting with a night phase, saying that it does not make sense to start with a day phase, but then later, when pressed, denied saying he wanted to start with night. Also, his using the example of the cop wanting to start with a night phase also seemed to reinforce that he wanted to start with night.((( I think mouse might have got lucky by pressing him.))))

bozo
Day-1 40:18
page 8 @Ezio: I would like you to explain your No Lynch vote, specifically for this game setup. I believe a No Lynch would benefit the mafia.

bozo
Day-1 22:46
page 9 @ghug: The problem I see with Ezio is not that he is advocating an anti-town no lynch, it is that if he always does it, he can easily hide as scum D1 this way. There is a 20% chance he drew mafia, so we can't just assume he is town because he always votes no lynch D1.(((( I am currently voting for him because he has had no input so far this game, not because of his no lynch vote.))))

bozo
Day-3 69:47
page 34 I have been townreading brainbomb and teacon all game (except for a little while after brainbomb's cop claim when I did not know brainbomb had an established history fake claiming as town), (((((so since I was wrong about uber, I will have to go with mouse)))))

bozo
Day-3 20:54
page 35 If it is going to come down to teacon and brainbomb, I think teacon is more likely to be scum. One thing I find suspicious about teacon is his apparent confusion after brainbomb and DO both claimed doc. Even after brainbomb had strongly hinted that his claim was fake, teacon was still saying he believed brainbomb’s claim because he crumbed cop. brainbomb said he was not doing that, and I do not know what teacon saw, but teacon could have been looking carefully for crumbs if he was mafia. Also, teacon said he was hinting that he was the doc, and if he was,(((( he might have been setting himself up to fake claim if necessary.))))

bozo
Day-4 61:32
page 42. (((brainbomb is either bluffing or he is mistaken about Ezio being cleared by Jamie's erroneous mod kill message.))))

mouse (1825 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
brainbomb: not that I necessarily disagree, but why in this scenario would you say I'm the one to always kill?
mouse (1825 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
bozo: any particular reason you felt it necessary to include both a scenario in which someone was shot (and saved) last night, and one where the scum didn't shoot? I'd think it fairly clear that the former is substantially better for the scum to have gone with than the latter...
bozo (2302 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
@mouse: Because if I were scum, the NK tonight would depend on the NK last night, and there are only two possibilities for last night, the NK target was saved, or brainbomb did not use the NK.
brainbomb (662 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
No disrespect to uber, it isnt about his malleability. but you are a PR, its more satisfying as scum to kill PR symbolically.
mouse (1825 D)
21 Oct 17 UTC
brainbomb: you'd shoot me tonight entirely independently from any action that may have occurred last night?

They can be lying through their teeth and text doesn't show tone of voice or eye contact so you have no idea. If you believe them they may stab you. If you don't you venture into a DMZ and piss them off. Ask around to others and you get rumors or nothing. This game seems so much better suited to face to face.
