Hey all, I'm looking for a regular group of players on here to play some high quality games against.

The requirements:
1)All players PLAY TO WIN. This means no "carebears", game-long alliances that end up in 2 way draws, or refusing to try for the win because you'd have to stab your ally.
2) Players follow the Win>Draw>Survive>Screw the guy who screwed you mantra.
3) Players communicate, communicate, communicate!
4) Players play it out to the end. No CDs and NMRs when in a bad position!

That's all the requirements. I'm open to whatever variants people wish to try out depending on interest. I also would prefer to play against people who have a fair amount of experience (either on here or on webdip), but I'd also be open to mentoring some newer players if they so wish it.

Hope to have a great response and to see you all at the diplomacy table!

The main reason for me being against #1 was because I am a carebear. I choose an ally, and support him to the end, hoping to see a win under his name. Or a draw under mine.

I play for fun, for role-playing, for practice, for testing my wits against another player placing restrictions on myself and seeing if I can aid an ally to victory,

i already had this discussion on Webdip.

Its ironic eh. The person with the most points on this site, is the person who doesn't play to win. :D
(I looked at everyones accounts who have been in a finished game my 128 total points beats everyone elses on the site)

If by "winning" you mean a solo victory, I also disagree with #1, but for a different reason.

There are many reasons to play this game. A solo victory isn't everyone's objective. There are many possible objectives. Part of the fun in this game is figuring out the other player's objective. In my opinion, if a solo victory is the only permissible objective, part of the fun is lost. Now that I think about it, breaking up carebear alliances can even be an objective.

While you are 100% correct that there CAN be other objectives (I even partake in alternate objectives sometimes), right now, I'm looking for a group of people to play a little cutthroat diplomacy the old fashioned way: going for the solo.

I'm open to whatever variant, and I propose a phase length of 2 days/turn.
I'd also suggest to create the games anonymously.
If I was to choose the variant, I'd propose MateAgainstMate, Germany1648, FogOfWar, FallOfAmericanEmpire, Karribik (but I've never played it, so I don't know if it works well or not); but as I said I'm ready to fight upon any battlefield..

I'm cool with fighting to the death rather than care bearing (although a group hug every so often never hurts!), agree to a 2 day turn timeframe, playing anonymous and cool with all of those variant suggestions from Tadar except Fall of the American Empire which I always get prison raped in for some reason...

Well it's good to see there's still some cutthroat players out there!

As that's 7, we can get going now if people want. I'd like to hear some input on what maps people prefer. It seems like 48 hours is ok with everyone, so let's get a map and get going!

Ambassador -

As for points, we'll keep it at 5 per game. I'm not particularly concerned about point, I'm more concerned about having a high quality game!

Okay, 8 players gives us a choice from Karibik, Mate, Sengoku, South America, Germany, Migraine, and Who controls. Of them, I'll have to voice my dislike for Germany and SA. As there's no 9 player maps yet, the next level is to wait for one more to do either Empire (which I love) or Modern.

I would have asked to join, but I am a carebear. I try not to stab my allies ever, unless I am forced to. Matter of fact, I think my fellow carebears and I should start a game for carebears!

Bug in Fall of American Empire IV?

Unique to games on this site, it seems to give me an error message when I click on the button to get a larger version of the map.

Fog of War glitch

In a fog of war game, I am Italy, and control Trieste. The the Eastern most province I own, however despite that, I can see an Austria army in Galicia despite being 2 provinces away.

Variant Suggestion

Just a suggestion, but a classic Avalon Hill original diplomacy variant is the Ard-Ri map. I can't find the homepage but there are maps and rules everywhere. It has a few interesting twists like no neutrals, a 100 percent domination win and the Vikings power that begins off-map and has 3 off-map supply centres. Thoughts?

Possible glitch with Mexico in Karibik - Developer help appreciated.

Evening, I've had a bit of an issue in a Karibik game as Mexico. Attempted to move from Merida to Honduras with an army in the fall of '01 and the move didn't go through. There was no opposition or other factors at play. Another player in the game says he heard something about a problem like this. Could someone take a look and see if there is a solution? Otherwise the Mexican position is rather unplayable. Thanks, here is a link to the game:
