12 Sep 17 UTC Spring, 1901: GameMaster: Please remember that negotiations before the game begins are not allowed.
12 Sep 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Info: This is a choose your country game.
12 Sep 17 UTC Autumn, 1902: Haha, this does seem to be a bit quicker :D I'll probably take a break pretty soon, once we get into the big years ;)
12 Sep 17 UTC Spring, 1903: FvA is much easier to think about than Cold War :D
17 Sep 17 UTC Autumn, 1905: Want to finish these up now? I have a bit of time spare and I think we're pretty close to the end.
17 Sep 17 UTC Autumn, 1905: Can't right now, have to get some sleep. I can probably put multiple turns in tomorrow evening (EEST).
23 Sep 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: This will be a stalemate after this turn. There's technically 18 centers on my side of the line... but I won't have any units free to take the neutrals, so it's going to be a draw.
24 Sep 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: Yup, you're probably right. I'll put in the next orders and will likely accept a draw after this phase.
24 Sep 17 UTC I think it might be possible for me to win this if I took a risk on losing Tunis or Munich or messed around with Aegean, but since I don't need to win this game I'm fine to draw here.

GG!
24 Sep 17 UTC GameMaster: France voted for a Draw. If everyone votes Draw the game will end and the points are split equally among all the surviving players, regardless of how many supply centers each player has.
24 Sep 17 UTC Yup, there's no way I can get to WM to cut a support and even a fleet in Piedmont won't be enough, so here we go (I don't know the stalemate lines by heart).

Well played, it would appear you're quite a lot more at home with the more traditional 1v1s than me. I had won every other match as Austria before this, so maybe I was playing a bit too overconfident in the beginning. I didn't realize it only took 12 units to hold France's line on every frontier so that's a valuable lesson.
24 Sep 17 UTC Yeah, there's a reason I chose FvA :) This is my best map for 1v1 by a long way.

I think Austria has a huge advantage in matches where both players aren't all that familiar with the variant, because the way France wins isn't very intuitive - most of the time as France you're looking to secure this stalemate line, take Tunis, and then mop up the SCs behind you after everything else is locked down. Most France players play way too aggressively and try to get over the line when they don't need to (which I did with that Fleet in the med, too... If I'd have just kept that in Tunis I'd have had the spare units to mop up my centers).
