31 Aug 17 UTC | Congratulations Spartan, very swift and solid victory! It's a shame Finkeldinkel kept nagging me after you barged into my west flank. It was clear you were going to be the solo threat and I think that if we had worked together (including greece) we might have been able to halt you. A thank you to Greece for providing support for me. |
31 Aug 17 UTC | Thanks BobRoss! I actually wasn't very confident in the potential for a solo until I was able to get by Rome's defenses in the 5th year. Before that, I was certain I was going to get stalemated quickly, and even lose Egypt (since I only had a few units there). I think you all could have stopped the solo, but given that it was PPSC, it made some sense to go for the SC grabs instead of join against me. |
31 Aug 17 UTC | Yeah, i always fail to read closely whether it's a PPSC or WTA game i'm joining. I have a very strong preference for the latter. Then again, this variant doesn't lend itself very well for a draw as a 3way draw is quite unlikely in gunboat and a 4way draw should not be desirable for anyone in a 5 player variant ;-) |
31 Aug 17 UTC | I agree, much prefer WTA. 5 players is almost too few to expect a draw to happen since there is rarely an even split when you get down to 3 players left. |
31 Aug 17 UTC | Played, Spartan - another game where the initial opening strategy was devalued by Rancher betting greedy and sending a second army into my area, even though it's known that Carthage is very hard to contain + Bob was obviously ceding Leptis in favour of an attack on Persia... I expected to be toast but made some headway - a lot of it blown by chucking 2 centres back to FD at the end, courtesy of a great deal of pain + morphine, Spartan's march had the feeling of inevitability.... |
31 Aug 17 UTC | Well thanks for the good game everyone, it's my first non-1v1 victory since returning to the site :) |
31 Aug 17 UTC | yeh, I guess was playing a bit greedy there and it bit me in the behind ... good solo |
31 Aug 17 UTC | Good game, all! I can't really say anything that hasn't been said already. |
