16 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: (zorclex): Ha! I made it in. Take *that* vdip!
16 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Let's make this clear from the beginning... The game type is public press, which means a gentleman's agreement to only discuss the game on this thread... Not though any other means, public or private
16 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Are we agreed? I hope so. Because this is nuts.
16 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Secret alliance?
16 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Secret alliance?
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Salvete, omnes! Dicamus in solam linguam Latinam! Qui se secum in foederem iungiunt?
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Clare rideo. Vere sociemus in foedem illam ad victoriam latinarum civitatarum et istas barbarias conjuncte superemus in gloria. Rough translation: LOL. Truly, in a *foolish* sense of victory, you (pl) latin speaking barbarians will together be conquered ingloriously.

Okay but seriously...
@Russia, are you interested in coordinating in this first year? What if we agreed that unless Austria accurately tells us where he plans to move in the Balkans, R+T agree to work together against Austria. Does that sound like a deal?
@Austria - see above.
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: *foedus. i think I just swore because I used the wrong ending. oh well
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Loleo. Nunc omnes nos iuggernautabitis?
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: ad Austriam: tu mecum contra Russiam Turciamque iungies?

ad Galliam: tu mecum in magnum gloriamque foederem iungies?

ad Germanicos Anglicosque: tu mecum contra Russiam Turciamque iungies, quia in linguam Latinam dico?
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Lo siento, pero no puedo leer latín (ni aleman, aunque soy Austria). Si malinterpreto a ustedes, la culpa no es mía. Por favor, ¿Qué significa "mecum"?
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: So, uh...
Secret alliance against anyone who speaks Latin?
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: But in case not, here are my proposals:

England: Pretty much your only long term play is to work with me against Germany. Working with Germany can't last because you'll get boxed in and then be forced to stab, which he'll be prepared for he doesn't stab you first. But if both of us work together we can take him out and go our separate ways. I'll be moving int the Channel, and hopefully we can get one of us into Belgium this fall.

Germany: You and I could easily take out England if we work together. I'm pretty sure that's actually the optimum play for both of us. Neither of us actually wants England breathing down our necks later in the game, so I recommend we take him out sooner rather than later. As previously mentioned, I'll be moving into the Channel to help us out.

England and Germany: I'll be choosing my strategy based on which of you two sells me on the idea of working with you. So I'm being totally honest in what I just said.
Alternately, though, none of us could fight and we start a Western Triple which is usually viewed in the same light as the Juggernaut in terms of scary alliances. It's definitely worth considering.

Italy: What? I don't speak your papic language. But if you're begging me to not attack you, sure, I'll hold off for now. But I generally don't like those who grovel.
But speaking seriously, I think we should DMZ Piedmont and try to help each other out. A Franco-Italian war is always weird and hard to wage, and they usually both get killed by those around them. A non-aggression pact is the best option for us.

Austria: Good luck. If you're interested in teaming up on Italy or Germany, I'm in. But unless we can get Russia to move against Turkey, I doubt that could happen. But I'll try to help you out where I can, as a strong Austria is in France's interest.

Turkey: Russia was talking about teaming up on you, I think you should be careful with him.
But France and Turkey interestingly are the only two powers to not share a common neighbor, so we can't exactly team up on anyone or fight each other. However, that does not at all mean that we can't work together. I recommend that we be honest with each other to our mutual benefit.

Russia: I think Turkey sad he was going to move into the Black Sea. Maybe you should try to get another fleet down there to hold him off.
But while you do that, you and I are both bordered by England and Germany. Should you feel inclined, we could take one of them out, potentially with the help of the other. I know Russia's attention is usually focused south i the first few years, but keep it in mind. It could work out great for both of us.

To everyone: Good luck! I hope everyone is already having as much fun as I am. I'd like to echo Turkey's first post in that the game pretty much has to stay here, anything else could give an unfair advantage. I'm looking at you, Bren.
I'm looking forward to winning with your help. Again, good luck to all.
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Lingua Latina sic est iniquum utilitas.

Ubi Russia dicit, ut contra Turciam pugnet??
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Russia has said nowhere that he was fighting against me. He hasn't even posted yet! Let's not put words in his mouth. fwiw, France also falsely suggested that I was moving to the Black Sea. Maybe france already has "aggressive northern openings" on his mind...

That reminds me... I've never played a public press only game, and I imagine most of us haven't. I might remind you that France... has. Let's not let him get away with open misrepresentation or manipulation. It's "palpatining" as we've come to know it. He's probably going to gain too much ground anyway when G/E forget about the game and NMR, so let's not let darth zorclex get away with this.

@Austria - I started out asking Russia for cooperation, because you're starting out in a position to hedge me in. But if Russia refuses to even show up and talk, maybe he's going to forget to enter moves. In that case, I'm willing to recognize that we have much to gain through cooperation. Any thoughts on how to proceed with a nearly-absent Russia? You could open to Galicia and Rumania, and we could help each other move north. I'm going to take Bulgaria and wait to hear from you.

@Italia - That reminds me of something depressing Dr. Nick Prince back in undergrad used to say: ludos illos calliditates solae superabunt paucae, (roughly speaking: "only a few people win these clever games.") Whatever, I'll play the game mostly in English. :)

@Russia & @England & @Germany - Are you there? Don't give France the advantage because he showed up. Make him fight for it, at least.
17 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: hic ludus magnus piger erit, cogito.
18 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: I presume France is a homeschooler...
18 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: At any rate, going about this game entirely on a smartphone stinks beyond Cerrynitys very worst computer restarting flatulations!
18 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: I apologize for being tardy to the party. Turkey, I dig the destruction of the west. Let's be besties.
18 Jan 17 UTC Spring, 1901: France, do you even know judo? Didn't think so. Go back to baking and stop trying to incite bickering, and postpone your own death by firing squad.
