| 31 Mar 15 UTC | Autumn, 2: Ok, I should have explained this earlier, my apologies: When you tell an army to move, if they are by a sea zone with a ship in it, there will be options for where to move followed by "(via convoy)" (I think that's how it says it). This means that you can move that army to the province using a convoy move. To do a convoy move you not only need to order the army to do the move, you also need to order the fleet (or fleets) to convoy that army where you want it to go. For example right now I could order my army in Byzantium to move to Crete (via convoy), and also order my fleet to convoy the unit in Byzantium to Crete. Then next turn my army would end up in Crete. Two more things about this: 1) the fleet does not have to be your own. You can ask someone to convoy your army for you, and hope that they will do it. 2) you can convoy it using multiple ships to far away places. For example if there were ships in the Gulf of Tacape, Libyan Sea, and Egyptian Sea, an army in Thapsus could be ordered to move all the way to Alexandria, but in order for it to succeed every fleet along the way would have to be ordered to convoy it to Alexandria. That is why Persia's move from Sidon to Cyprus failed (because the Egyptian fleet that made it technically possible for it to move there was not ordered to convoy it) and why Alexandria's and Thebes' move to Jerusalem both failed. |
